jedimasterben
You can use almost anything to power any number of drivers. The important bits of the power supply are the voltage it supplies (which determines how many LEDs you can power per LDD driver) and how much wattage it is rated for (which determines how many LEDs in total you can power). Reefkid88
So this is what I think I'm going to go with,so Ben go ahead and let me know if this is wrong for what I have planned to order... Quote Link to comment
jedimasterben
You should charge your battery And if you're going to spend $50 on that power supply, then get a Meanwell HLG instead, it's about the same price (depending on the total wattage of LEDs you're powering, it is probably cheaper). 1 Quote Link to comment
Reefkid88
Hmmm, okay. I'm powering 33 leds which is 99w's ( 9 of which are 3ups ) total divided into 4 channels. The HLG-185-42B that Rapid has is $122 shipped, which I'm sure is more expensive than anywhere else. Honestly, what I have in my cart at Rapid,is cheaper shipped from them than buying the same thing from LGB which is $90+. Not to mention a supply double the power,a power cord, and extra wire lol. jedimasterben
Holy jeezus, $122? Their MSRP is ~$90. For 100w you want this one: http://www.onlinecomponents.com/mean-well-hlg120h48a.html?p=43123053 It's a bit more than the SE series, but is higher quality and sealed. 1 Quote Link to comment
Reefkid88
Yeah man,its $115 + $7 shipping. That's worse than them bending you over and giving it to you and not even spitting on the tip !!! HAHAHa you like picking things that involve monumental waiting periods huh lmao But,besides the prices on the Mean Well 350w it'll work correct ? I'm not to worried about the price really. I mean,in all reality I was refunded the amount I was to fix the light and get it working lol. Also,I'm thinking about something like this to power the light for my girlfriends tank, consisting of 2 b,2 rb,2 nw 1 uv on 4 seperate channels and using my extra typhon to control the light: http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Regulated-Switching-Power-Supply/dp/B002FH54L6/ref=pd_sim_indust_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=1DH4AJGNFT5WM9NXJ92Y 1 Quote Link to comment
jedimasterben
LOL, I didn't even see the wait time. TRC and Powergate both have them in stock. http://octopart.com/hlg-120h-48a-mean+well-14627142 The SE series will work, just don't keep it close to the tank. Quote Link to comment

Okay, finally I get your stamp of approval on something. That didn't take long at all... !!! Can you peep the supply I posted just a sec ago.. I think that'll be more than AMPLE supply for 7 leds on a 4up board and using 500h drivers even though I MAY add 1-2 more leds to every string down the road. Quote Link to comment

Reefkid88
Got around to ordering my stuff from rapid: MW 350w power supply 4 MW 700hw drivers Power cord And 2 ft each of red, black, blue, white wire Hopefully it'll be here this week if not next Monday some time. Last week I sent back my test kit to exhchange it out for the one I need and hopefully I can make it to the post office today to send out my extra typhon to see if it was faulty or not. jedimasterben
9 LEDs won't use more than 30 watts of power. Quote Link to comment

jedimasterben
Oh, I missed that, in your post above it said for seven LEDs and then adding another two. lol 33 LEDs will peak around 100w at an amp each, so a 120w power supply would have been sufficient lol Quote Link to comment

That's why I was asking if that power supply would be suffice enough to power those leds even if I wanted to add 1-2 leds per string. Totalling 3-4 on the RB,blue and NW string and 2 on the UV string. Quote Link to comment
Reefkid88
I have a ridiculous question, does anyone know of somebody whom had a NanoBox housing for sale ? I've already messaged Dave about making me one,but I'm awaiting a response. Also,I got offered a ridiculous deal on a Mr.Aqua 15 gallon,NanoBox Mono w/ Storm controller and some other goodies.. I'm thinking if I can round up the cash,I might snag it up Quote Link to comment
Reefkid88
SNAG IT UP!! Nah,I've decided I'm going to stick with the light I got from you. I might just get the tank. This light is powerful enough. I just need help with wiring seeming I can't get the voltage low enough on my new psu to contend with the drivers that are in the light. Quote Link to comment
Reefkid88
I think it's time to out in a order to Rapid for some different and solderless leds... 1 Quote Link to comment
Nanofreak79
What for? Your light your messin with. Quote Link to comment
Reefkid88
Yeah. Since I'm getting what I am from you,I'll have 7 extra leds I got from rapid. If I just their solderless leds it'd be easier for my incompetent self to distinguish each channel from one another and what not. It's only $54 worth of leds I'll need, not bad. 1 Quote Link to comment
Nanofreak79
Cool, it'll be nice to see the finished product. Quote Link to comment
Reefkid88
Cool, it'll be nice to see the finished product. If I ever get this damn thing finished lol. If I off all my leds for around $45-$50 ( which the value is way higer ) than I can get what I need. 1 Quote Link to comment
