Well I guess my build is officially ,"Off to the races." I have been planning and fighting for some time now, and finally have it all together. Plan to stock with small gobies, inverts, and a ton of the fun stuff.....CORAL! The plan currently is to have each Pillar/Island represent a coral type. One will be zoas, one LPS, and the center SPS corals. I am trying to create something extremely pleasing to the eye, as this is in my main living area. Everyone sees this as soon as the come in my Condo, so it needs to be killer! I plan on looking and stocking only the brightest colors and morphs I can find. Hope y'all follow along! Feel free to critique, suggest, and otherwise say anything you may see that could make this build even better!

-Feed frozen food(homemade with Oyster Feast, Reef Roids, Soaked Mysis, Nutramar Ova ) daily. Hand feed/Syringe feed corals,Pom-Pom, and Shrimp


-Check/Fill ATO Resevoir





Weekly


-2x Weekly water changes @ 4gallons


-Replace filter floss 2x weekly during water changes


-Siphon debris from sand-bed during water changes, blow detritus from rock work


-Trim/rotate Chaeto from Fuge Basket


-Dose 3mL Aquavito ,"Fuel"


-Clean inside stand, light, and surfaces of salt creep, dust, and otherwise clean.





Monthly:


-Clean MP10 Wetside


-Clean Return Pump


-Check Filter media, change/recharge as necessary


-Vacuum debris from AOI section(gathers on the bottom)


-Clean Probes, Float switches

Still messing around with a stand design... I imagine the frame will be your average 2x4 construction, considering what to do with the skin and doors. Considering a ,"fake front" to be held on with magnets....dunno. Ideas?

Looks like its going to be a great build. I kinda like the sleek design of the "fakefront" as you called it. It would probably go well with the sleek, rimless design of the Nuvo 16. Any stocking plans yet?

Thanks! I plan to make a faux door on the front, and have the entire front panel removable. This will give complete access to the interior without any obstruction. I am also toying around with getting some kind of hardwood furniture and converting and using the piece of granite I have on the top....dunno yet. As far as stocking plans, here is what I was considering:

 

Fish:

-Yasha or Hi-fin Goby(paired with Pistol)

-Firefish(possibly a Helfrichi

-Shark Nose Goby

- 2-3 Tangs and 2 Mandi Dragnets

 

_ Considered a clown, but I am kinda tired of the whole clown deal. I also would like to point out these are just some options, I don't plan on having more that 2, MAYBE 3 fish in this tank. I might consider 3 if I do several very small ones.

 

 

Inverts:

-Assorted snails and general cleanup crew.

- Long spine Urchin

-Pistol Shrimp

-Would love another RBTA, but tank seems like it may be small...

 

Corals:

-Assorted Zoas( Darth Mauls, Gold Mauls, Rastas, Egale Eyes, etc)

Haven't Finalized anything yet, but I will likely do mostly LPS and softies.... I will be able to support anything with the Nano Box fixture, But looking for something easier to care for than my last Tank(full of SPS)

 

Considering doing a multi tower scape type deal, similar to how SandDeep did his pico....I want lots of open space and some isolated ,"Gardens" of certain corals. A Zoa garden, Acan Garden, etc.

I like your fish plans. I'm pretty over my two clowns. They are beautiful and personable but as soon as I put my hands into the tank they practically draw blood! Mean little guys.

Haha, yeah I hear yah! I had a Perc that was a total jerk, he used to hit my hand every time I put it in my 75 gallon. I want to keep the fish small and simple. Not looking for anything crazy, just enough for some movement. I also plan to keep fast moving fish outta the tank, that was the gobies will be more apt to come out.

Looks like everything(minus the light of course) will be here no later than Wednesday! Excited, I had originally planned on building a custom stand, however , I am headed to an unfinished furniture store to take a look. I am also considering refinishing a piece of furniture as an option as well. If I cant find anything by Saturday, I will go ahead and build one. Anyone have a good stand premade for these things?

Well, the hunt for a stand went pretty well! I went to the unfinished furniture store and was unable to find the right piece. All they had were either to tall, wide, etc. I didn't want the tank dwarfed by the stand. So I fudged around a bit at some thrift stores hoping to stumble across something, to no avail. Decided to stop by Care-a-Lot pet store and thy had this Deep Blue stand, what luck! The top is 24x12, which are perfect dimensions! There were a few scuffs, so me being the naturally cheap bastard I am, I convinced the manager to take 30% off! So everything is ready to go as soon as my stuff gets here! Excited beyond belief, I might still customize it and unscew the top, reenforce it, and put the granite top on!lol

If you guys had to use a small tank for an ATO canister, what would you use for this size tank. This is my first automated ATO, used to top off daily..... I was thinking a 5.5 gallon, but maybe a 10 is a better idea? I couldn't imagine there being that much evap to need a 10 gallon?

I have the 8 gallon Nuvo with the Lid on top. I use a 2 gallon Jug for my ATO jug. I only evaporate about 1/2 of a gallon a week. .I will attach a IPad photo to give you an Idea of what I did.Forgive the poor photo quality It is small enough as to not take up to much room in my stand, but big enough to last me about 3 weeks if needed.

I think I will do the 5.5 gallon, I think I can fit two underneith the stand side by side. I can then do the auto water change deal I planned for down the line. Even If I change my mind about the auto water change, I think I will still go with the 5.5 gallon. Although, one of the LFS has 10 gallons on sale for 9.00......hmmmmm

5.5 will be a good choice. That's a very nice stand. I really like your idea of granite on the top of it. My 34 gallon Solana Stand has gotten quite a bit of water damage to the top , from drips and splashed over the last few years.

Right, I imagine i will run two 2.x braces across the inside(for extra support. I may have them sit about 1/4inch lower than the edge and make a flush 1/4 ply piece for the top(so the ply sits flush in relation to the sides), then secure the granite. I also would like a tad bit more sticking out around the pedestal for the tank. I would like 1/2-3/4 inch around....

Picked up a 5.5 Gallon Deep Blue tank for the ATO reservoir, Fits nicely. I figure it should give me a decent time frame between ATO refills. Think I will cover with a custom Plexiglass top, with a small vent hole. Going to try and figure out some lighting options, think I may copy SteveT and use a magnetic switch on the door.......

Found a local acrylic supplier to cut 1/4" thick acrylic sheets for my 1-ATO container, and 2-AWC containers. Unfortuneately I have to go the DIY route because of my size constraints. Custom work from a third party yeilds a product that would cost me 150.00 each(450.00!). However, the local supplier here has quoted me the following, all cut in 1/4 inch acrylic:

 

6- 10" x 18"

4- 7" x 10"

4- 18"x 7"

2-5" x 10"

2-18" x5"

 

Total price for all sheets cut and out the door is 114.00..... I am pumped. Should yeild 2-5.5 gallon AWC resevoir,and 1-4.0 gallon ATO resevoir. All I need to do now is double check my measurements when I get home and make sure I am on target with sizes, and I will confirm my order. I will be able to pick up the sheets tommorow after work! Looks like I now have an extra 5.5 gallon deep blue tank, guess I will have to start a pico with that one....

Welp, I guess I won't be getting my tank today, just checked the tracking info and UPS says my condo number wasn't on the package. Dr Fosters rep is telling me that it was PayPal and that something must be wrong with the address associated with my Paypal account. I logged on while on the phone and the ONLY address on my Paypal account is CORRECT. The Address on the Paypal receipt is ALSO correct, and the address I typed into the online order form is ALSO correct....yeah, must be Paypal . Way to accept responsibility for screwing up Dr. Fosters and Smith, not even an apology.....she still tried to say it wasn't their fault....I simply won't order from them ever again.

Well, I guess my MP10 arrived! So I went ahead and pulled the 5.5 out from the bottom of the stand and water tested it. While it had water inside, I figured, why not test out the MP!? Got the water splashing around,hehe, love it .

 

Also, called MarineDepot to make sure that the REST of my stuff was coming to the right place tomorrow. Of course, it was....so I guess I will get everything tomorrow! Frustrated that I was excited ALL DAY and now I have to wait....O well! Picture bomb tomorrow as I start building!!

Thanks, if my stuff will ever get here,haha. Talked to Dave from NanoBox today, looks like I am two weeks out for my light. I have to travel to Florida for work from the 27th until the 10th of March. Gonna try and get everything setup and in place before I leave. This way I can try and get the cycle going before I leave. So, when I get back I should be able to Do a water change, install the light, and get a CUC.....

Well, After Dr. Fosters called yesterday at 4:05pm to update the condo number, I called at 6pm to ensure it was done. UPS confirmed they recieved the number and verified the whole address. Was to be delivered today.......well, I looked at tracking this morning and It is 6-8 hours away in Front Royal,Va.........headed to Mansfield, Ohio. I called UPS and they informed me that several years ago I recieved a package at the Mansfield address, they re-routed my tank to the old address. I suppose they assumed they knew what was going on....Anyone ever delt with this?

Awwwwwwww yeah! Decided to cancel my order with Dr. Fosters after the abortion of a deal with them and UPS, found out a LFS an hour away had a Nuvo 16 in black! So just got home from picking it up...250.00( I can handle the extra 2.00,lol) Haven't unboxed it yet, however test fit the pedestal on the stand.....perfect fit! About 1/4-1/2 and inch all around the pedestal! More pics to come when the rest gets here(which should be any minute now).
