Jkirsten21
Ammonia - 0 PH 8.0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate - 10 ppm Most recent addition to tank are two clowns... My understanding is trauma has to occur to the coral for brown jelly to occur? I have not touched the coral since I put it in the tank... I have a number of hermits that trudge through the sand( coral sits on sand bed), would that be enough damage to develop the disease? Finally, in order to treat the disease, you must remove the infected parts? I've never done this, any suggestions on a how to? Link to comment
duncan-junkie
suck the jelly off the coral with a turkey baster, and make sure none of it floats off.....AT ALL!! if the jelly gets on to another coral, it will likley become infected. After you do that, you can hope for the best and let it sit and maybe it will get better, or frag the parts that weren't damaged by the jelly. Ive heard of people dipping corals in peroxide and having success, but I'm not sure the ratio of peroxide to saltwater? BJD pops up out of no where.....any slight form of trama can cause it, and maybe it was your hermits? This stuff moves fast, so be diligent! Ive had my experiences with it, and had 2 whole colonies turn white in about 5-6hrs. Good luck......look on google for the peroxide dip for corals. Link to comment
Jkirsten21
So I tried basting off the BJD last night, showed signs of more when I got home tonight... I took the extreme and did an h2o2 dip... Blew off the remaining BJD... So I thought.... This is what I'm left with, is the salvageable? Do I want to risk bPutting this back in the tank? xavier1
nope. thats a goner, unfortunately. Link to comment
duncan-junkie
Bummer!!! Are your other corals ok? Any signs that it spread?? Link to comment
MikeTR
ugh.. this stuff.. i hate this stuff.. I was actually going to say it sorta looks like flatworms in the first pic, but last one def confirms it's bjd.. i've lost quite a bit of LPS a few times to this stuff.. grrrr. Healthy one day, gone the next. sickening.. Link to comment

Healthy one day, gone the next. sickening.. Same here, it started on my bubble coral, then 5hrs later my pocillopora was 3/4 white with slime all over it. I didnt think it could spread to sps, but it did. Popped out of no where, and took out 2 pretty big colonies in no time. Its some serious stuff! Link to comment
Jkirsten21
Other corals are looking okay except for my zoas... They didn't open up all the way today... I had issues with my candy cane coral ( another topic in the coral forum) but it is doing well now. Encrusting gorganian and pipe organ coral acting as they normally do.... I think I'm going to pull all hermits and crabs, go strictly snails in the tank. My intentions were to complete a large water change tonight as well, about 20-30 %... Is that advisable? Jkirsten21
Now I feel like I'm fighting even more of an uphill battle... One of my clowns is developing a white mass on his lower lip and is showing signs of labored breathing... He has been in the tank for about a week now... Is this a case of marine ich? What is going on?!?! Link to comment
Acielot
Im not sure it is BJD those definitely looked like flatworms. I'm sure it's no coincidence that all the jelly spots are the same shape. BJD is different than those blemishes. Link to comment
duncan-junkie
Its kinda hard to tell is its marine Ich? Thats a whole other can of worms!! You can do a little research on this site......They have the best info http://www.reefsanctuary.com/forums/fish-diseases-treatments/23132-marine-ich-myths-facts.html Link to comment
metrokat
It looked like flatworms in your first picture. BJD is a brown poopy stringy VERY VERY VERY foul smelling infection. Treatment usually includes siphoning the goop, not blasting it off. And a lugols dip. Although I suppose a peroxide dip could work as well. I'm just not sure how LPS handle peroxide. As for your clownfish, some medicated food will help. Link to comment
Jkirsten21
The clowns have been moved to the quarantine at this point, i feel like my system is failing. I did about a 25%water change last night, watching my corals to see how they react today. In the case that it is flatworms in the DT, i guess i will do research on how to remove them... i appreciate everyones help. Link to comment
metrokat
Might be a little late for QT though. If it is ick then your reef system has it and should be kept fallow for a while. However you can medicate in the QT without killing your biological filtration in the DT. Link to comment
Jkirsten21
Picked up cupramine and test kits today, I'm waiting a whole day to see if the marks were just relAted to stress... If the spots are still there, then I will medicate Link to comment
