tetraodon
so in my upgraded tank i want to do a euphyllia garden with a couple other coral and my clam, any ideas on how i can set things up so everything lives together nicely? Link to comment
th64
What do you expect to pose a problem? LPS likes water a little dirty and so do clams so it should be perfectly fine. Just keep parameters in check. Ca and Alk are both factors in LPS as well as clams so they kind of go hand in hand. You do want to keep them far away enough though so your clam doesn't get stung. tetraodon
More like ways I can prevemt the euphyillia from stinging the clam, like with flow or rock barriers Link to comment
GHill762
I've had both frogspawn and torch tentacles all over my crocea with no issue - clam didn't mind one bit.. I've seen people have issues, but I think thtat's more the exception than the rule.. Link to comment

ward827
Just place the clam up flow and hammer/torch/frog down flow. I have all 3 with 2 clams and all live together very well. Link to comment
ZephNYC
THis is actually a very hot topic far above all of our heads, because i have seen clams happily burried in Euphyllias, spead eagle and loving it, and i have seen others bothered by them. I think what i love most about clams is the more I learn about them, the more I realize i dont have a friggin clue. Link to comment

I think thats the most honest and intelligent statment ever, I guess itll be a trial and error type of deals Link to comment

I have found that they (maxima clams) tolerate hammers, frogspawns, and alike corals better than torches, galaxia, and other heavily stinging species of LPS. However, like Zeph mentioned, it can go either way. I don't have much experience with Squamosa or Derasa in contact with LPS even though I have kept them plenty of times (and currently). They have simply not been put in a position where they were that close to any corals. I would imagine they would tolerate it well being the hardier of the giant clams. Just an example of how well maxima clams tolerate being next to LPS corals A few more: being buried up to the mantle in coral is nothing new for many tridacnid clams. Link to comment
tetraodon
Im deffinerly gonna try it, and have a back up plan of something goes wrong Link to comment
ward827
My maxima is tiny and has nothing around it. But, my derasa is getting pretty big and has a lobo and candy cane colony on either side. No problems. In fact, the derasa is the mediator between those 2. W- Link to comment
