Lani's 20L

So, I am totally in love with the newest additions to my tank. A Mississippi BRK member gave me his bluestripe pipefish today and it is so cool! I was worried about it handling the high flow I have in much of the tank, but, to my surprise, he's quickly gotten used to it and was hanging out in the very highest flow a little while ago. I'm keeping a close eye on how the royal gramma deals with it. So far he seems to be establishing his usual "Hey, I'm the eldest here, so yeah, look how tough I am" bit. He did the same thing to the geometric for the first couple of days, and has ignored Geo ever since, so hopefully the same happens with the pipe. Now to see if I can keep the pipe well fed! Shouldn't be a problem with all the frozen food that member gave me. :D

Also, my first denros!

I realized I never commented on the pipefish! I'm jelly. Bluestripe or dragonface are the next pipe I'm going to attempt. Both of those come from the reef crest so they don't really have any issues with high flow scenarios. The banded pipefish I've tried in the past were OK with the flow but I never saw them eat anything besides pecking at the rocks very seldomly.

Is it soon yet?

That pipefish is probably the coolest thing I have ever seen. Did you have any issues getting it to eat?

Based on the size of the turd I saw come out of it yesterday, it seems he's getting enough to eat. :o

I was worried that it was starving because of its flat underbelly, but after a little research, turns out males have that flat belly for their brood pouch and those bumps on the snout, so its definitely a male!

He picks at the rocks all day long and I'm feeding the tank a mixture of frozen foods, including arctipods and mysis, so hopefully he'll do well in here until I can get the tank upgrade done. Also added some chaeto to the hob filter for a fuge, so hopefully that will bolster the pod population.

Yeah, Pip is too cool! They say these pipes hide much of the time, but he stays out in the open and hunting around the rocks most of the day. The high flow is absolutely no problem for him at all.

Hah, I'll try to get a few gifs done today, but no promises.. got a lot to do this weekend!

 I love that pipefish. Can I come over and steal it from you?

Nope nope nope!

Wow, Lani!!!! I never cared for pipefish until seeing your Pip. The colors .

:D

Under normal tank lighting, his coloration looks more purple than blue, but he's still pretty awesome!

What's up?

Oh, hi. Yeah, I know I've been sparse lately. New city, new job, new friends, etc. are keeping me busy. After just a few weeks of working, they're already promoting me to a manager position soon, so yeah. There's that.

The tank has been a little neglected as a result. The toadstool is taking over. I started a 10gal frag tank, but of course the night I was out of town to see a friend's band play in Baton Rouge, the tank leaked and my roommate had to clean it up for me. Going to buy a new 10gal soon so I can start fragging stuff. Here are comparison shots from October and today to show how much the toad has grown.
