eksblenny
I know that reviews usually go to the product review section, but since I have so many coral photos here, I thought I might put it in this forum. _______________ I recently purchased and received an Avast "Top Down Porthole". It is essentially an underwater box that attaches to your DSLR lens so that you can shoot under the surface of the water. Positives: Looks really cool. Solidly built construction. Rough matte plastic material makes it difficult for the box to slip out of your hand, even when wet. Thumbscrews grip your lens manual focus ring so you can still manually focus even with this box equipped. Fits the Canon 120mm f/2.8 lens perfectly. Because this barrel is so long, you can submerge your lens pretty far underwater. Underwater photos are ridiculously nice (plus corals look prettier when viewed from above). Negatives: This thing is heavy. Combined with a heavy lens and DSLR, your arms will get tired unless you rig some kind of support for the camera. Because of the heavy weight, you'll need really steady hands or some kind of bracing to get non-jittery shots. The lens is acrylic so it can easily scratch. Because the barrel is so long it's hard to clean the inside of the lens if you get dust in there. Will not work with all cameras and lenses (definitely not point-and-shoots, and not with short barrel lenses like the Canon 50mm). Verdict: Two thumbs up from me. Underwater boxes are really great if you are into taking photos of your coral. Coral look the best from the top since that is the part of the coral that gets the most light exposure. I wish I had purchased this or a similar product sooner. _______________ Link to comment

eksblenny
Thanks urbaneks. I didn't research price and just bought it directly from avastmarine. I was charged an extra $13 for shipping. Link to comment
