raidendex Posted January 9, 2014 Share Posted January 9, 2014 So I have DIY set up for my 120 right now, but will be upgrading to 180g soon. I have three options (least which I would consider): - Light two sections of 180 with the existing fixture and use the 120w ebay fixtures for the 3rd section (have two of these) - Buy exactly same LEDs to build a third module (current fixture on 120 is made out of two modules connected only through Jarduino controller) - Sell off what I have and build whole new fixture with perhaps those CREE Lumia LEDs to make it a bit neater and compact. Obviously first option is easiest and cheapest, I'm just not too sure how good those fixtures really are, I had them for a while on 40b, but with only few simple corals. They did grow, but that tank never did well so not sure who to blame Thoughts? Layout LEDs on the tank Ebay 120w fixtures Link to comment

raidendex Posted January 9, 2014 Author Share Posted January 9, 2014 Just put 4 pieces of wood around the heat sinks hehe. There is a 1x2 frame inside holding the walls in place as well as a ledge across which another 4 1x2 are attached. Two cross beams per heat sink. Heat sinks are just suspended or attached to those beams with some long bolts. Acrylic shield, plastic spacer, heatsink, 1x2 and a bolt on the other end. Also one of the ebay 120w fixtures decided to burn 4 LEDs today, looks like the violet ones. So blue channel no longer works. Makes me believe in them even less heh. Should be able to fix them up once I get sent replacement LEDs, but still not DIY quality Link to comment
raidendex Posted January 16, 2014 Author Share Posted January 16, 2014 So I've decided to build the third module. Just need to figure out what would be the best way to do it. Of course I can just duplicate what I already have i the other two modules, but a prospect of drilling all those holes, attaching leds and lenses in pretty daunting. Two lumias 5.2 would give me almost same number of leds for most channels, though 3 would be closer. I think i have 12 nw, 24 rb, 16hv, and 5 of each from RGB per 24x24x24 volume right now. Any thoughts on a similar layout but using lumias 5.2? Also when is it supposed to cone out? Thanks! Link to comment
