Halo_003
I noticed in your sump you don't have any mechanical filtration such as socks etc. How is that working out for you so far? Link to comment
jinx
As far as numbers go, everything is very stable. The fact that I started this tank with dead sand and 90% dry rock, it's taking way more time to mature. I'm lacking a big chunk of filtering capability, but the rocks are getting there. The sand is finally alive and full of life. Besides losing a few fish to BS, the only problem I've had so far, is the cyano in the display. Right now I'm currently running a sock and a couple bags of chemipure. I don't plan on running them for long.. once the rocks mature, I shouldn't need it. I've also been doing 30-40% water changes every other week. I should be able to slow down on the water changes soon. Link to comment
jinx
Spent some time toying with the settings on my camera... Still have more to tweak. It's getting better though need to lower the grain some. Link to comment
jinx
Small updates, been busy.. I removed the Angel and Tang, due to the fact they decided to team up and eat my gorgonia's polyps. Everything has since healed and back on track. All the corals I have are doing well, so I decided to give two SPS a go, a monti and a birdsnest. Both are small frags. I also decided to remove my hood with 4 bulb t5ho, and put on my 8 bulb tek t5ho fixture. I have it setup for subdued sunrise (2bulbs on the backside) 3h 20m on, full sun (4bulbs middle) 3h 20m on, and subdued sunset (2 bulbs front side) 3h 2m on. I'm going to run it like that as long as algae stays at bay. Well see how it goes. Link to comment
jinx
Morning lighting ( I need to get a better camera...) A close up of the center rocks current growth state under the same lighting. Link to comment
jinx
Made a quick n dirty mini frag rack for the newbies to acclimate on. Figured getting back into sps's, a birds nest and a Monti would be an easy reboot. I still need to mount the Monti. Link to comment
jinx
Some current ref pics The piping shown is coming from my skimmer. Cleaning up and cutting back the macro mass. Link to comment
jinx
Pics of the montipora's. Neon green. Picked up a couple frags of this from xzeror along with a mushroom and a frag of birdsnest. Picked this one up for $10 from a LFS. Belived to be Idaho Grape. Link to comment
jinx
Horrible pic, but I had to cage off the new additions to the tank as the jewel damsel was nipping at the birdsnests. I picked this Acro up for only $6. Link to comment
jinx
looking good! Thanks! Gearing up to get it going with sps's. I was going to try and keep it strictly Atlantic, though that's slowly going out the window. I eventually want to start growing out and selling corals, which apparently now requires an aquaculture certificate, even at the hobby level.. They require full documentation of coral sales, origin, ect.... I don't want problems down the road with FWC and localized species when I decide to start doing it seriously. Anyways, came home earlier to find out the dwarf ceriths that I added to my 10g macro/pod tank had babies LOTS of babies... Yay for free cleaners! Also getting ready to setup a 60g shallow frag tank to get things going Link to comment
jinx
Went back to the LFS where I got the acro to buy 2 more frags, ended up getting 3 others for free! pics later. Grabbed a pic of the orange/red? monti after dipping and dropping it in. It fluoresces hot pink and the polyps are the same color. Link to comment
jinx
Small update, picking up a reactor this week. That is all.. Link to comment
jinx
My Jewel Damsel has picked up the taste for SPS.. This time he cleaned a section off one of the neon green monti frags.. Time to catch the bastard Link to comment
xzeror
My Jewel Damsel has picked up the taste for SPS.. This time he cleaned a section off one of the neon green monti frags.. Time to catch the bastard D: That jerk lmao. CATCH IT! Link to comment
jinx
Working on it. Fish trap setup. Now it's just a waiting game.... He isn't dumb. Good thing I have plenty of time to wait while being home sick as hell Link to comment
jinx
Still trying to catch that damn damsel.. I've also been seeing a slight rise in phosphates, but not nitrates.. I also have a small outbreak of gha going on in the display, nothing serious. So I added two bags of carbon to the sump for a lil buffing and I picked up a cheapy phosban reactor. Started it off with a 1/3 of the initial dose of NPX, rather then the half dose. I plumbed the outlet of the reactor to dump onto a small turf scrubber that I rigged up. It also doubles as a screen to keep my blenny and any macro debris out of the return pump section. Hopefully it'll help with the phosphates. I also need to come up with a better top for the sump. Going to go get my water tested from another source to see if they match up with mine. Link to comment
jinx
I've also noticed my spaghetti worm population is exploding and it's not like I'm over feeding the tank.. I lightly feed twice daily and it gets completely consumed. I feed a mix of flakes, pods, and sometimes frozen goods, but not all in the same day. Link to comment
jinx
All of the new corals are showing growth and the green monti is regrowing it's tissue where the damsel munched it. Still haven't caught him with the trap, I've about given up on it for now. He hasn't touched anything since. It's possible that he was just reacting to other tank smells/fish from where they came from. The ATS is starting to grow and I've noticed that my skimmer isn't skimming as much.. This is just since the addition of the ATS and phos reactor. GHA is still growing in the display and I continue to remove it by hand as much as I can. Hopefully it'll give up the battle soon. jinx
Nice sump pics- I miss not having a sump to tinker with! Thanks. Sumps are the way to go imo. Got around to taking a couple pics before my camera battery died, of the two hardest hit zoa colonies when I had the nudi's. They are nearly back to normal and reproducing. Still a couple other colonies to grab pics of when my battery is charged. Link to comment
jinx
Damsel has been caught and removed after I took out some rock to get it done... Asshat ate more monti! Done with that Link to comment
jinx
Now that the Damsel is gone, I removed the cage from my frag rack! Took a top down of the Sarmentosa with a glass (Quick viewer LOL). Seems to be happy and is growing fairly quick. All of the base covering the plug is new. Color remains strong, besides the base, which is more like a maroon color at this time. Color is a bit off through the glass, pretty close though. Link to comment
jinx
The replacement for the Jewel Damsel, Blue Reef Chromis. Waiting for more to come in, so I can keep them in a small school. Link to comment
