now everything except for the lobo is about an inch away from the front glass and that was as zoomed in as i could get with things still being somewhat in focus. i tried manual focus and auto focus and still the same. how can i get this thing to focus on close up shots like this? (taken with my phone)...

also with anything farther away than my lobo (a couple of inches from front glass) it would not focus on anything.

I have something similar

Set to manual mode and play with the settings more, also change the color temp to "warm" or something of the like, it takes out a lot of the blue

Cameras / lenses all have minimum focus distances. Once you get too close to an object the camera cannot focus on it. There isn't any way around it. If you're using a DSLR you can use macro rings to reduce that gap on lenses or buy a dedicated macro lens (best option), but that's it.

The more you zoom in, the longer your minimum focus distance becomes. If you were to zoom all the way out you could probably take a picture from closer up, but of course that won't help you in this situation. Your phone can take a picture close up because it has a very small minimum focus distance, but it can't zoom. When you zoom in with your phone you're using a digital zoom, which is essentially the same thing as cropping the picture.

You always have the option of taking a picture at the minimum focus distance and then cropping it down, but of course that reduces the size of the image.

hmm, yeah thats what i was thinking. i got bored and played around with taking pics. ill upload quite a few here in a few mins once photobucket stops being stupid. but anyways, i just find it strange how i can slowly zoom in and everything is in focus, zoom in little more still looking great, little more then poof! cant even tell what im looking at lol. id love to have a dslr with a macro lense because thats what i like taking pics of but costs wayy too much right now. ill just have to do like you said, take pics then crop them. which btw what is a good cropping tool that i can get online?

When that happens what the camera is doing is focusing on the first thing it can, which is behind the subject. Due to the nature of depth of field, when you're zoomed that far in what is actually in focus is a pretty small sliver, so once the camera moves beyond that point you can barely tell what the subject was.

All of those shots look awesome to me. I don't think they need to be cropped much at all, if any. I'm pretty sure you can crop pictures with whatever online hosting site you're using, flickr, photobucket, picasa, all of them can do it (I think). If you want to do more than just crop there's iPhoto if you have a mac, or the software that came with your camera, or Adobe products, which get more expensive but can do a lot more.

DSLRs and macro lenses are great but they're a completely different beast. Not only are they expensive but they take a lot of practice to get anything usable out of them.

Your camera has a custom white balance in manual (M) or aperture priority (Av) modes. Put a piece of white paper under your lights and set it (this will get rid of the blue).

just googled the t2i and looks like they are going for around 300 used. not too bad. i think this lil camera i have will hold me over until i can afford something nicer. id love to have something like the t2i and a nice macro lense.

thank you! they definatly have their own personalities. taz is a jack russell (the white and black one) and he is an A-hole lol. hes mellowed out alot in his old age though. Ace, think he is a boxer/shepphard mix is a ball of energy. wants to do nothing but play 24/7. can be pretty crazy at times lol.
