stylo bleaching- high light?

first of all, merry christmas NR!

 

secondly, i got a nice piece of fiji pink stylophora from DD two weeks ago. i placed it at the top of the tank, between 1-3" below the surface, under a maxspect razor 16K at 90%. the coral had good polyp extension for about a week then slowly turned a clear pink and then white at the parts facing the light. i assumed it was too bright and moved it down a little, but i think a bit too late. i have since shortened the photoperiod and turned the lights down to 65%. but the poor thing won't open up and is still white.

 

what can i do for the coral in the meantime? anything?

 

also params are good, 79-82 degrees, nitrates .5 ppm, alkalinity 8.3 and ph 8.0. i dose aquavitro calcium and magnesium every day or other day and use 0TDS RO/DI water with aqua vitro salinity to 1.025-7.

I have my purple polyp yellow stylophora under very subdued lighting. The color and polyp extension are now excellent. Its under about 20% all blue 0% white on an Ai Nano.

You likely bleached it because it was placed way too high under way too much light. I would put on the sand for a couple weeks for it to recover if it's not too late.

If I remember correctly, at about 10m depth, the attenuated blue spectrum is all that remains.

So i can actually lower the intensity of my whites to have more of a 20k look and it won't affect my corals? if so that's music to my ears

it's a great light, i would highly recommend it.

 

i moved the coral to the sandbed today and the polyps are extending so i will leave it there for a while to color back up.

I added a green stylo about three weeks ago, my first SPS, and put it about 10" below and maybe 4" off center from an AI pribme. It's been slowly bleaching. Only polyp extension is at the tips, and then only slightly. What are your experiences with the light that stylo and pocillopora like?

Maybe I'm just lucky but I have a green and a purple colony of stylophora in my tank. The green is about half way up the tank and the purple is right at the surface. I have a 120 watt maxspect 16,000k and I'm running it right around 80 percent with no troubles at all.
