GHill762
So I was looking at my maxima today and there was a white organ coming out of its mouth moving around, like it was searching for something (I know it's not a tongue Lol).. I was kina freaked out when I saw that because I've never seen anything like it on my crocea and can't find anything on Google. What is it and is it a good/bad sign of anything? Any help appreciated. Thanks, Garrett Link to comment

GHill762
I believe you saw the clams foot. coming OUT of its mouth? The foot is under the shell, this was like a big tube shaped organ coming out of its mouth and searching around.. Basically looked like a white version of the exit siphon Link to comment

Does it mean anything? It's hard to find any info on it, and I was getting some dirty photos trying to find it.. Link to comment
cmd5235
it's a scientific fat that most clams have a symbiotic alien inside of them. You most likely saw this. Consider yourself lucky Link to comment

Mine looks like it swallowed a tiny shark. LMAO. Link to comment
ZephNYC
Actually i spoke to soon when I said it has no meaning whatsoever. These clams lived for months afterwards, so there was certainly nothing wrong with them, but I do believe it to be environmental because it would always happen to two of my clams at the same time. GHill762
Here's a pic, she was doing it again today. Not a great pic, I couldn't get a better one, she kept retracting on me.. Link to comment
sangheili
My little Black/White Maxima just did this about an hour after I moved the container he was in a couple inches. Also wondering if I should be worried about the little bit of mantle that is somewhat retracted. Been like that for a few days. Pic: Link to comment
