this is my first nano tank, been running for 4 months, nothing special so far, but my pride and joy. before this my entire experience with salt water has been converting a green spootted puffer tank to full salt, so this has been a great learning experience and will be evolving as i gain some experience.

heres a stock list:

-1 nerite snails

-3 astrea snails

Equipment:

-50w generic heater

-Current USA Orbit led

-hydor 240

-phosgaurd/carbon

coral:

-Green star polyp

-leather toadstool

-assorted mushrooms

-hammer

-zoas

He's found himself a perch, how cute. Just read up on the corals you get to make sure it doesn't nip at them.

he's so cool!! i looked through the thread on this guy before buying and saw the problems with sps, but i dont plan on keeping any of those since i really dont have the experience! mostly id like hardy softies, mushrooms, and possibly lps, but takin it very slow :)

cuuute! <3

thank you :) new favorite fish!

I've thought about them too. I think they are adorable. Just cute, meek, likeable but I knew I wanted to try a couple sps.

theyve got a puppy dog personality too! he sits on his perch, sees me walk in, and hovers staring me down right at the front glass waitin for food :) i was torn at first, but the critters are my favorite right now! although sps do make me stop and stare everytime

Little update, dont know what caused it but the little goby managed to push himeslf through the top on my tank and on my desk top three times the other day. broke my heart, but took him back to the store, i cant handle once happy fish turned to jerky. sooo im thinkin ill go down the route of inverts only. 5 gallon and reef compatible suggestions welcome! theyll be goin in with the same cuc as listed before

over the last couple weeks ive collected some new additions! first off, very first coral of my life: green star polyp! im pumped, its spreadin on some rubble pieces, im a reefer, no big deal. ha! next was an awesome green leather toadstool i found at my lfs for 10 dollars, its about an inch tall and doin well despite the best efforts of my hermits. Also, asked at the store where i could find some mini brittle stars to bump up my cuc, the owner tells me hes got thousands in his home aquarium! 2 days later, sent me home with a bag full of them for free:)

nice. I personally love the brittle stars.

me too, theyre kinda freaky lookin from a distance, like some spider in my tank, but their stripes are awesome when they have a leg swayin in the current.

after 4 days with this new leather it looks like its already molting/peeling. still has polyp extension and everything, just looks like wet paper is falling off of it! hope its doin ok

they creeped me out when I first started my aquarium and now I miss them :(

yeah, they do that. they shed. I moved mine right under the filter because that's the only place he seems to proper extend or shed. x_x

i lucked out finding these stars from what ive read here on nano reef, the guy said its not somethin you can just order in. plus he gave em to me for free, i was ready to pay whatever for them since i have a gravel substrate and really need them. Aqua Mart here in the denver area is a place worth checkin out!

so far ive got mine about dead center in the tank, getting good flow, and im not to worried about the gsp getting slimed. great news this is a regular thing for these guys! thanks for the info, seriouslt considering changing majors to biology just so i can keep a pimped out tank! ha

before i forget, how did you lose them? any specific things they need?

I've considered doing something in Biology after I finish my medical studies (medical coding and billing then an health care management or medical assisting)

before i forget, how did you lose them? any specific things they need?

I was using a really old filter rated for 10 gallon tanks, on my 6 gallon edge, and one day it started smoking and apparently sending electricity into my tank. All of my micro stars came out of the live rock, freaking out, and trying to get into the sand. 2 days later, even with a ton of water changes, everything in my tank died. this was not even a week after I'd bought like 6 corals, and killed like $170 worth of stuff in my tank. I almost quit because of it. :(

they will scavenge in your tank. I never directly fed them anything. One of the bigger ones grabbed my finger once after I'd dropped some mysis into the tank, that was pretty neat. lol.

its been a while since ive updated this, been too busy drooling over everything here. i have since upgraded the lights to an 18" true lumen orbit fixture, as well as aquired a blue mushroom, hammer, and took a chance on a tiny turqoise birdsnest frag B) now with so much green and blue in the tank, im desperate to start a nice zoa garden to mix up the colors. postin pics tomo

I love seeing a nice variety of corals.

that's pretty much my goal :) as much diversity as i can squeeze in (without the hammer killing everything)

That's the one thing I did manage to kill in my Evolve 8. Too much light and flow and bye bye. And it hapd so quickly, like 1.5 days. Now though I know the tank would've been too small to adequately house it.

yeah ive noticed it can be touchy, i was almost too nervous to look in and see how it was doin the first few days. im hoping by time he grows out of my tank i can frag him and start over with a small piece and sell the rest off. but im fine with passin it on if i have to, its my moms anyway, she had to have one, and im the only one with a tank ha
