I plan on getting a rapidled retor fit for my biocube this weekend. I have 2 questions. 1. will this lighting work for a super blue maxima, and the next where should i place the clam.

Clams want as much light as you can give them, especially those with a blue mantle (as the blue reflects blue light).

i have their 24 LED retrofit over my 29gal biocube, and I can grow some pretty nice sps........so I would assume its plenty of light?? Im getting a maxima here in a week, I have no doubts that it will do great in my tank. btw, when you get the retrofit, mix up the white LED's with neutral white, cool white, and warm white.......it will give you a better spectrum than just cool white! The LED's rock!!

Also, when you get the clam, make sure to start it on the bottom, and slowly move it up to where you want in the tank. I've burnt up a few sps by just throwing them up at the top, and even in the middle. These LED's are powerful!! NO JOKE! I usually place my new corals on the sand for at least two weeks, if not three. Just wanted to run that by you.....

... or just use a high-quality 4000K white and you don't have to have any silly mixes of the three. They all cover very similar spectrum, why use only slightly different ones for whites? Keep them all the same and you'll have better results with better mixing.

And clams are not SPS.

I also only run my blues at 70%, and whites at 30-40% It gives me a good 14k-16k look. My corals love it once they get acclimated. If you've never owned LED's before, be very careful when ramping those lights up. SLOW AND STEADY! I would also recommend you get the dimmable LED's, its much easier to acclimate your inhabitants and it's aestheticly pleasing.

Yup, never said clams were SPS, but thanks for making that clear. Just trying to help out by sharing my experience.

I was just saying that the two are really nothing alike. Clams are far more complex than any coral could ever hope to be and contain orders of magnitude more zooxanthellae to make up for needing so much more energy. They also have the highest light tolerance of any photosynthetic animal. They've been tested at over 4000µmol of PAR and still did not reach photosaturation (though that point was probably only 1000 or so PAR away).

Basically, put the clam where you want it to go. If it doesn't like it, it will move on its own, but I would leave it exactly where it moves to.

Pacific East Aquaculture! I just started buying from them a few months ago, but they have the best clams I have ever seen. They don't have the 14 day stay alive refund as live aquaria, but having bought from both I still go with PEA because I the clams seem healthier. (I still love Divers Den though).

THe only clams I really like from DFS are the aquacultured ones that are not WYSIWYG. Not on Divers Den, but on the regular selection. PEA Clams are also top notch, but they are a little pinchy.
