Making Apex Controller Wireless?

Hey All!

Planning to grab the Apex Lite Controller and wanted to make it wireless instead of having to drag a cable from the living room to the office.

Did some research but didn't really get a solid answer to what type of bridge/gaming adapter I should get. There are so many mixed reviews on certain brand/model of these bridge/gaming adapters.

Was wondering if anyone out there set up their Apex wirelessly and not have problems with their bridge/gaming adapters restarting or failing on them.

So far this seems promising, but would love your input. Thanks!

They should all work with anything. I've used them on my apex as well as computers where I didn't have a spare USB port for a USB wireless adapter. You probably need to configure them on a computer and then plug the apex into it. Otherwise it won't know what network to connect to.

excellent resource for all your Apex needs

Thanks everyone for the quick response! From what Apex Forum says, the Netgear is what most people go with :)

I use the NETGEAR Universal N300 Gaming Adapter for my apex and it works great, I have never had any problem with it. The one thing that I didn't realize is that if you want the app for your phone to work in conjunction with your apex then you will need to do some port forwarding which isn't really hard.

Sweet! Thanks for the tip on port forwarding.

I went with these http://www.monsterproducts.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=5476'>http://www.monsterproducts.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=5476 and have not had any issues. One less wireless device plus the surge protect.

I suggest Amazon for purchasing...

Got to love the write up on that product. Claims Wi-Fi is too slow and unreliable. That device specs shows max of 200Mbps. 802.11n max is 600Mbps. Who's the slow one? :) Of course, you can never get that max speed unless you are in a laboratory.

Hey all, I know this thread is over a year old, but it has most everything I am looking for.

I have a netgear universal N300. I have the power cord for it, and the ethernet cord. I also have a usb cord that is 1 end usb and the other fits the power for the netgear.

I recieved all of this with my apex used, no instructions. I plugged the power cord and netgear into my computer and got the wireless connection set up and green lights thumbs up! Then I took it to the apex and plugged the eternet cord into the apex. The green light went red and was showing not connected. I then removed the power supply and attached the usb power supply, plugging the usb into the EB8 port. It light up green again an worked fine but then the entire apex unit and wireless piece went blank like it lost power. Unplugged all and tried again, same result.

I have narrowed it down to the usb power supply cord connected between the apex and the wireless piece. But I cant keep a solid wireless connection running the router to just the wall plug. its like apex doesnt recognize the eternet without the power supply too.

Not sure what to do at this point. Where can I look for a new usb power cord for this thing? Did it come with the netgear adapter, or is it a cord I need to purchase from apex? Please help, I need to set this up wirelessly as I cannot run an ethernet cord through the house to where. The tank is.

A cheap netgear gaming adapter works fantastic to get the apex wireless :)

They are recommending you directly plug a cat5 cable from your router to the Apex unit.

I think they meant ethernet over power. That is a system that uses the power lines in your home to connect two transceivers together to provide a network connection. Each transceiver has an Ethernet plug.

Power over ethernet is a way of sending power to a network device using the Ethernet cable.

They meant ethernet over power is better then the wireless adapter thing people are using.

There is no way they meant that. Ethernet over power is so inefficient. Your power grid in your house has to be 100% perfect. Meanwhile a $20 WNCE2001 on ebay has lasted me 5+ years without a single issue.

Just repeating what the guy on the phone told me, all of this is foreign language to me!
