downside is if you are using a MakersHEATSINK, you need to either keep it at the widest angle (80 or 110 depending on which optic you pick) or cut a 2" hole in the aryclic splash shield of your makers heatsink.

We will have some pre cut acrylic coming however to help people out.

Ok. I have the makersled heat sink and the Lumia 5.1. Putting 2 Lumia's over my 75. Each mounted on a 12" makersled heat sink. Which optic would you recommend and how high above the tank? Since I have the makersled I will have to have it set to 80 or 110 depending on which I buy. Right?

Plan on hanging the lights this week.

Do you plan on doing PAR readings of the lumia 5.2/.1 over a 24"x24"x24" cube? I think jedimasterben did the 5.1 on here.

didi it its ok just put the adhesive on the markings on the lens..

sorry for the delay

on the Lumia 5.2 you almost need no adhesive. just a dab around the mounting holes is fine.

will the lens help more evenly mix the colours into a single beam of light, similar to how the lens works on a Kessil? Or will it make banding worse by focusing the individual beams instead of combining them? I currently have two 5.2s over a 40B and am considering upgrading to a makers heat sink, and makers drivers, so that I have a cleaner looking unit, thats controllable via apex. Would the lens be a worth wile addition, or will it make what little banding I have, worse?

I still do not recommend any lenses, they increase shading of corals. For tanks deeper than 30", though, they start to become a bit more necessary.

I was just looking to use the 110˚ lens, to not really focus the light, just to blend it into one beam instead of rows of particular colours (you still get some weird disco because we have to group the LEDs in rows of like colours in order for any kind of reasonable control) do you think it would help at all with that? Or just make it worse

I know you asked about the 5.2... sorry I have no experience with it, but I found the lense on a 5.1 (over an 18x18x18 cube) looks horrible. It completely unblended the multi-chip. Resulting in five distinct bands (cooresponding exactly with the LED layout) throughout the tank. With out the lens it works great.

I'm not sure if this translates to a 5.2 or not.

that was exactly my concern. I can see the same thing you described minimally right now without the lens. it becomes obvious in the shimmer that comes through the glass and onto the floor, but I wanted to hear someones experience with the lens if it amplified or solved the problem, sounds like it amplifies it. thats good to know. thanks for the help :D
