Schnecke
Hi Everyone, I thought it was about time that I put up some kind of a build thread on my tank's progress so far. I'm from Australia (not the awesome QLD coastal part, but rather the hot in the summer, freezing in the winter part!) My brother started a home-based marine fish business and of course, I decided to set up a small tank. Originally I bought it for work, but decided it was better for home. 15th April: This was just after I unboxed it, the filter is at the top of the tank (not ideal, but I'm not too worried about that as I'm a believe in frequent water changes) and the lighting being stock, won't stay for long!: 20th April: Set up at my brothers house. This was after adding uncured live rock and salt water: 25th April: After adding aragonite sand: 27th April: My First Fish! They're not going into my tank yet, they are going to my brother's nano for a holiday until mine is ready: 2 27th April: Nearly cycled: Link to comment
Schnecke
8th May: Cycle finished, cleaning crew (nassarius, turbo and troches snails added) and fish added. My brother popped a little pink and white bubble tip in there as well, it was the only thing left in his nano holding tank so he was shutting it down so figured it could go into mine. What a sad little blob it was!: 19th May: Lighting Upgrade. 2 x 23 tubes of 6400K Daylight and 1 tube of Actinic in the original light fixture: 25th May: Sprayed the rear wall. Goodbye ugly background: 15th June: First Corals to come home (Frogspawn and Open Brain - Open Brain was very happy after 2 feeds!) after my Bi-Colour Dottyback killed by Yellow Clown Goby, I gave him back to my brother to sell on to someone else. 3rd July: Addition of Thislte Coral (that I didn't realise was a Carnation Coral, oops) 2 x Scoly's, few little morphs (adopted from my mum's colony's) and an Elegance Coral (Also a gift from my mum's tank) along with a gonio that hadn't been doing too well in her tank) at this point I saw some VERY odd behaviour in my perc, in what looked like it was getting stung by the frogspawn (he wasn't doing very well at hosting it and it was VERY unhappy) and I ended up losing him after he fitted for 3 days 17th July: After the very sad passing of Merlin, my Perc, I chose little little one. She is tiny and has lovely colouring. 17th July: My other new addition, a Royal Gramma - a MUCH more peaceful addition! 22nd July: The tank as it looks today (the first photo is taken with an Iphone and it makes the purples look quite garish) I should note that I added another Actinic Blue set of LED's and popped them both on short timers, as the fan and vents are to go into the hood this week. At 3w each, there is a decent amount of lighting there and everything seems to be loving it. There is a little plated mushroom at the front right that's doing great and a new green bubble tip that wasn't doing so well in my brothers stock holding tank, so I took it to see if it would perk up a little bit (as my pink and white bubble tip has grown 4 fold since it was introduced and they are both eating really well) I know everything in my tank isn't meant to be in there (the Frogspawn ended up on steroids, tentacles trying to reach everything) and the Elegance has let it's belt out and spread out all over the place, it will be going back to my mum's house and her larger tank in the next week or so, to make way for something else) and of course, I have LOTS to learn. I am doing 12% water changes every 5 days (made 24 hours in advance, checked for salinity and PH, and popped in at the right temps etc) The filtration is a basic overhead power filter that has had the pads removed and rubble and carbon added. It's very basic, but I am a firm believer in frequent water changes and by having minimal "stuff" up there, I get good aeration and good flow. Also has a wave maker for medium currents. Thanks for reading :-) I will add photo's as I get new things and learn more. Link to comment
