Pico's 50 gallon, new corals, not enough space!

Nice tank and equipment. This has potential to be a great set up.

I'm a little confused tho... what happened that caused you to reset the tank from the original start in Aug? Also looks like you are dealing with a hair algae outbreak or possibly bryopsis. Do you have a clean up crew in your tank? Hard to tell from your pics but I didn't see a single crab or snail. You'll want to get that in check asap, before it ruins the party.

A vengeful ex unfortunately destroyed the tank.

Placed in turbo snails, will need to get more though or a tuxedo urchin.

Glad to see these guys everywhere. Started with dry rock, no critters what so ever.

Been dosing a squirt of Tigriopus calfornicus weekly (Reef Nutrition) and now reproducing and covering my glass.

Also placed shells with coraline algae, but algae remains on shells only,

Acros and Stylo's doing really well.

My favia and acan not so much.

Algae that was in high flow is disintegrating away, almost gone now.

Echino more bleached and now back to the sandbed with partial shade.

Really no change in procedure, will dose Red Sea Reef Energy and AA's daily instead of 3 times weekly water might be to clean now.

I would have to day that the new Cadlights PLS 100 skimmer is skimming away like a champ. Maybe to well.

I shut it off for an hour last night after dosing the AA's, hopefully will let the corals absorb more of the nutrients.

Accidentally wrote sh#t instead of shut, love the automatic censor function.

Once my RedSea Reef energy A&B run out will start doing AcroPower at Indies 1ml/day range as per instructions.

So far no "amazing growth" but has to add some nutrients to the water that the wonder skimmer is skimming off.

Maybe I just need to stock more fish.

Next questions is programming automatic feeder (once Neptune systems gets back to me on updating the firmware) how to shut of the return pump for 10 minutes without flooding the sump?

Anyone know a good work around?

Acropora nana (GARF BONSAI) hopefully it is the right species, recovering on sand bed.

Grossly stable, neglected tank after a busy week.

Alk is the only thing really getting chewed up. 3.9 to 3.3 in a period of 6 days.

Going to use SimFit to get a non-linear growth curve to predict daily requirement of buffer.

After a brief explosion of growth between 3-4 weeks, now everything seems dormant.

Finding that my tank water smells almost like kitty litter. Have not had this happen before, usually a sweet salt water smell. The big difference I am doing this round is dosing Red Sea NO PO X.

Mystery Acro in another growth spurt.

Instructions – Please read this ENTIRE PAGE before starting the installation

This firmware revision supports our new AFS and AWM modules, control of your Radion lighting, and most importantly, will eventually allow for the connection to our new cloud-based service Apex Fusion

To update the firmware follow the following procedure:

  1. Backup your current controller’s configuration just in case something goes wrong
    1. Configuration> Load/Save
    2. Save Configuration
  2. You MUST directly connect your APEX, with a network cable, TO YOUR HOME ROUTER
  3. DO NOT USE Wireless
  4. If connecting to Apex to your home router is not possible, see page 107 of the ACRM
  5. Disable your wireless on your computer (usually a switch on your computer or a setting in your menu bar)
  6. PC: If you do not know how to do this, then restart your computer in “Safe Mode w/networking”
  7. For PC:
    1. Search for a controller using the magnify glass next to the network address line, or
    2. Type the controller IP address in the network address line, and fill in the other appropriate information- not “apex”
  8. For Mac:
  9. Search for a controller using the “WiFi” icon in the bottom left-hand corner, or
  10. Select the “plus” sign to add a controller manually
  11. For PC: If it does not load the firmware after failed attempt 2, then power cycle your Apex by removing the Aquabus cable from the EB8 to the base unit.
  12. For Mac: If it does not connect retrying two times, then power cycle your Apex by removing the Aquabus cable from the EB8 to the base unit.
  13. Disable ALL virus/firewall software on your computer
  14. Download and Open the Apex flash utility (see the links below for Mac and PC) then
  15. Click Update Firmware
  16. After the firmware update completes successfully, then select Update Web Pages.
  17. IMPORTANT – now you MUST clear the cache history in your browser (see below for your specific browser)

NOTE: You should now go and save your configuration again as you did in step 1. HOWEVER, if you were running v4.20 or earlier prior to upgrading, your previously saved configuration from step #1 is NOT compatible with 4.3 firmware – DO NOT ATTEMPT TO LOAD IT ONCE YOU HAVE UPDATED TO 4.3

Bought the thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter. Will connect to computer via instruction number 2.

No huge developments. Hair algae disappeared, turf like algae appeared, brought in via frag discs.

Time to get a tuxedo urchin.

Turf algea going crazy. LFS with no tuxedo urchine.

Zero PO4 and NO3.

Ca dropped over the past 8 days 460 to 340 ppm today. Yay getting skeletogenesis, now just have to keep up.

Alk 3.7 eQ/l, Mg 1570 ppm. Temp 77.5 and pH 8.05.

Added old MP10, kick up a lot of sediment starting up. Hopefully will get more into the water column and filtered out.

Need to make a slave master and possibly set up a Nutrient transport mode.

Also need to update firmware of MP10.

3/25/2014 Red Sea Pro test kits.

0 ppm on both PO4 and NO3.

Ca up from 340 ppm to 380 ppm today. Keep on adding Ca. Alk stable 3.7 mEq/l ( have dosing 3g/500ml RODI H20 over the week), Mg also down to 1480 ppm from 1570 ppm. Temp 76.5 and pH 8.08 and salinity 34 ppm.

No coraline algae growth. Hoping the coraline encrusted shells I put in would seed the tank.

Probably due to skeletogenisis.

May need to consider a dosing pump. Borrowed 60ml syringes from the ICU to help me with daily Mg, Ca and buffer dosing.

On Natural mode, 09:00 to 21:00 at 70% maximum intensity.

Peak 14:00 to 16:00.

Wondering if I should go to 100%. Will test this out for a week.

Steady as she goes.

Keeping up eight Ca @ 360 (need to give a boost then maintain)

Alk is stable at 3.8

Magnesium slowly trickling down as well, 1400 today.

pH 8.12

Temp 78.1

NO3 and PO4 as usual 0
