So my Navanax laid eggs today and I thought it might be hungry, and I was fresh out of Hermissenda crassicornis wouldn't you know?

Pretty much everyone knows that the Navanax inermis feeds on other sea slugs like the opalescent nudibranch, and some may know that they feed readily on bubble shell snails and such.

Mine has thankfully developed a taste for freshley shuck common periwinkles, of which I keep in abundance as a feeder snail for other animals already :D

Just thought it was awesome to watch him literally in-hail a chunk of food right in front of me. I was so surprised that he actually took it that I wasnt even ready with my camera and had to catch him finishing his meal on video.

Uploading the video now to Photobucket so it should be posted in just a few.

This video is much better quality since I was prepared to catch him in the act :) Action is at 1:40 or so.

Your navannax is very intresting.

Thanks :)

I just got another one a couple weeks ago but he didnt make it :( Came in regurgitating some kind of worms and never recovered.

Funny thing though, I found a hefty Shaggy Mouse Nudibranch out in my holding system and I've been feeding him small anemones to try and get him to reproduce so I can feed the babies to another kind of Nudibranch that I want to keep :)

Wow they are cool!! we talked earlier on your website about these so if you want to start a thread about your breeding attempts that would be fantastic.

Still hanging in there :)

Been trying to keep my hands out of the tank as much as possible and let the algae grow in, need to re up my anemone food source soon though. Had to ship out most of the anemones I use for food on a public aquarium order. So hitting the big minus tides this coming weekend and stocking up again :)

Nice any thing you are looking for in particular or just what ever you can find? Also when I do set up my tank is it legal for you to send me some surf grass and macro algae?

Macro algae I can send out, still have yet to find a legal way to collect and sell surf grass though.

also what do you think the possiblitys are for breedin periwinkle snails?

Never tried with the periwinkles, I think the time expenditure for them to breed would be longer than its worth as a food source. What part of the US are you in? If there are any asia markets that sell live fish/shellfish they would likely have some kind of marine snail there you could get for cheap as food.

I am in western New York. I don't know if Rochester or buffalo has Asian markets but they probably do.

I looked and there is an asian market that sells live fish and sea food so next time I am in rochester I will look to see if they sell marine snails. I know the periwinkles on this side of the states are invasive and people eat them here so they probably have them.
