"REEF EVO" fixture VS Beamswork

I have been checking Aquatraders for the beamswork reef bright fixture 18"-21" 18 watt

the switch is 2 x day/night and off. It has 15 / 10k + 3 / 460 1 watt bulbs

sells for $79.90 but is not in stock and I checked on and off for about 5 weeks now. I have seen people recomend this manufacturer.

 

Today I noticed the reef evo fixture 18"-22" 30 watt

this switch is a 3 way all . just 460 for night and off. It has 7 / 10K + 3 460 3 watt bulbs

sells for $59.20. Has any one purchased a fixture from this manufacturer? What did you think about it?

I will be using the fixture for a standard AGA 10 gallon softie tank.

I have one of the beamswork 9x1W LEDs that clip on to the back of the tank. My only complaint is that the light is too heavy for the thin acrylic back on my tank. Other than that the corals responded very well and looked great. The optics are slightly spot-lighty but only noticeable on the rocks that are very close to the water level. Just how I have my scape though. I don't know much about the reef evo fixture though, so I can't help you much there. looks like a good deal.

 

The beamswork fixture you want has 15 whites and only 3 blues? That would be an issue for me....mine has a 2:1 ratio and the color is pretty decent, I feel like that might be a bit washed out...guess it depends on what you're keeping and what color you want.

Thanks for the reply. I did look at the 18 watt clamp on beams work but then I would have to cut the trim in the tank. Or use my 3 gallon JBJ and for now I want the extra water volume of the 10 gallon. I hope some one can tell me what they think about reef evo. I was wondering about the switch, can you have just the actinic on? Thanks again

I have been thinking about the beamswork reef ultra bright.... It has 6 3watt LEDs.....4 white and 2 blue.....my tank is the aqueon evolve 8..... Do u think it would grow softies and LPS?

I think some one on here has that light on a pico and loves it. I can not remember what corals are in the tank. You could try a search.

i have the beamswork 18 watt on a 9gallon tank (30x30x36cm). and even SPS have good PE.. definitely can grow softies and LPS.. but i don't like the color it produce.. too white.

Is that the clamp on reef ultra bright?

yes clamp on. im from singapore so i bought it from a LFS here.

I think I am going to order one of those. This will be the first time I try LEDs. At $40 shipped I will not be risking much $. I have only used MH on a 29 and T5HO on a 40B. I think it might be too strong for a 3 gallon JBJ. If it is I guess I will try to remove some of the trim on the ten gallon.

you will love the "moon light" mode which actually is a switch u can switch to just on the royal blue, make all the corals color pop. it would be a much better fixture if it was a 1: 1 white and blue ratio led.

Possibly the worst spectrum possible

Doubt the LEDs are real cree luxeon or bridgelux so it's not very efficient plus the other things used are also low quality

Never buy a led fixture that doesn't give very many specifics and/or uses cold white leds

I am sure you are correct. I was not expecting top of the line for $40. Do you honestly think it could not support some softies?

This is a dead thread obviously but I've been looking through so many threads researching the beams works and green elements light and 1.0reef just hates on them in every thread without providing any facts/evidence/reasoning.

 

That doesn't help anybody, of course there not amazing lights, they're $40, i doubt anyone is expecting greatness, but to hate on them with no reasoning is just wasting peoples time.

While 1.0reef may disapprove of the light I have to agree with him/her to an extent. The color, quality, and output of the light leave much to be desired, but like you said, its a $40 light. I'd rather spend a little more and buy a par30/38 and get better spectrum and power. I started with a marineland led fixture and wasn't happy with it so I went to a wave point led and while it was more powerful, the color rendition was bland and washed out. Lesson learned. Stay away from cool white/blue unless you're doing a fowler.

$40 or not, the idea is to keep "noobs" from wasting time and money on inferior lights - these forums exist so that others can give an opinion, and there have been plenty of "details" provided in the past for these and many other lights. Some of us just get tired of repeating the same thing over and over...

I hear ya. I wish I would have found nano reef before I started my first tank. Would have saved me a lot of money. There are a lot more reefers than there are reef product so most of the stuff has been tested and reviewed. Stick to the tried and true and avoid wasted money and frustration.
