Looking good. I am a big fan of these Mr. Aqua tanks. I like all the sizes they have. Your equipment list looks good. What are your stocking plans for this beauty? Good luck. i will be tagging along for the ride. Keep us posted, and everyone loves pictures.

Thanks! for stocking this bad boy I'm gonna do a LPS dominant tank. i gonna do a euphyllia garden on the left side some where, and get a few sps on that tall rock on the right. I'm planning to drill the tank next week some time... first time drilling a tank so I'm a lil nervous. gonna use a drill press but we'll see might be a bad idea.

Sounds like a nice tank. Drilling tanks are easy, take your time, use no pressure and let the bit do its job. The hardest part is starting. There are a few tricks to use, if you want any details pm me I will explain how I do it.

As far as the bow front tank, you should set it up next to the 11.4 and have it drain to the same sump. You could do one all lps, and the other sps, or zoa, or a killer bta! Endless possibilities.

i like the idea of the bowfront and 11.4 gallon on the same sump but my room would be to cluttered with 2 tanks. but i might set it up in my living room later.

Good luck bro. Ill be following this.

Thanks man im gonna need some luck...

stand update time!!! i used a red mahogany stain and im really happy with how it came out. the face and top is pine and the side are birch.

^^ Thanks guys!

i was really worried about the pine i used for the face and the top. every one at work was telling it was gonna look like crap if i didn't use a pre-stain. But if i used a pre-stain, the wood would not of come out as dark as wanted. so i didn't use now damn prestain and it came out looking good so im happy .

i got the stand finished up to day(minus a door but that can come later :D) i just need to give it a clear coat i just don't know what finish to use its between satin and semi-gloss. what would be the better finish for a stand

Good work on the stand! Rock work looks good too. What choice of sand are you going with? Or are you doing bare bottom?

My opinion, satin. Nice work!

thanks

I'm thinking satin too... mostly cause i have a can of it laying around, and a 4 foot tall stand might be too shiny in semi-gloss.

Thanks. I got all the rocks glued together and have them cycling in a tube hopefully there done by the time my tanks set up. For sand I'm gonna use carib sea special grade sand i don't want my sand to blow around at all so hopefully I'm happy with this stuff. I have the sugar sized aragonite in my 3 gallon and i hate it gets blown around every where i have to clean it off my rocks every day

Yeah, fine sand is definitely a PITA when it comes to cleaning the tank.

this is the dinosaur i used to drill the tank, thing weights like 5 pounds, made me wish i had someone to hold the hose... so it was just me dino drill in one hand and a water hose in the other... against the world.

i have my dry rock curing in a 12 gallon container its been about a week. todayi tossed a piece of shrimp in there to start the cycle. i place it in a mesh bag so i dont have to go hunting for pieces later

ITS BEEN DECIDED!! the stand it gonna be a satin finish. im gonna give it 3 coats. already has one so 2 more to go.

and a Question: the gasket on the bulkheads dose it go on the inside or the out side of the tank?

I feel like so many people are getting Mr. Aquas now. We should be sponsored by them haha.

Build is looking good so far man. Its cool that we're building a tank at the same time and pretty much at the same stage.

Gasket goes on the inside, at least that's how mine is and nothing leaks.

Yes gasket goes on the water side.

alright thanks. just making sure first time pluming a tank

Jackal,

Glad the drilling worked out for you. Its not as hard as everyone makes it out to be, Its only scary the first time. Holes look good, how long did it take to drill each one? The gasket on the bulkhead goes on the inside of the tank, When you tighten it make sure you hold the front still while you tighten the nut, so to not tear or strain the gasket. Gaskets are tough but always be careful. Looking forward to seeing this tank take shape.

The stand looks way over built, but better to be bigger and not need it then to need it and not have it. The stain looks awesome good choice not going with a pre-stain. Satin is always a nice finish for stands, semi-gloss and glossy distract from the tank in my opinion.
