NirvanaandTool
This was originally about my 40B Build devoted to a few amazing little waspfish but it has turned more into a build thread for my new 90RR build. The intent of this tank is to incorporate both my 40B's content and my previously sold 16g cube's contents into it. The cube's content have been already incorporated into the 40 and the 90 is getting close to being ready for SW. It's a 90RR with a custom canopy built by moi that will house an Evil Cluster led light (all the credit on this goes to Ben (jedimasterben). Return pump is a RLSS Waveline DC-6000 Gen2. The tank uses a Herbie style overflow with 2 1" drains upsized to 1.5" for max flow capacity. Flow in the tank will be 2 MP10ESWs but might be upgraded to 2 MP40ES eventually. Or something else entirely, who knows. My fish list changes every day but the main ideas are : 1-2 Lionfish (mostly like medium bodied), a scorp or two including my waspfish, a Genicanthus angel, a smaller Maori wrasse or two, a Halichoeres wrasse and probably a sand cleaner (diamond goby or goatfish). Other options might be a small hawkfish, Marine Betta, Kole tang or some other bristletooth tang. It's all up in the air pretty much. All pics of the build start on Page 2! Click below for the original post on the 40 Build. : This is a year in the making but was during a brief hiatus from N-R so I'll fill in the build pics and then get to the current time. WARNING this is going to be a pretty pic intensive couple of posts to bring everything up to speed. So last year I decided to start a new build after selling a 20" acrylic cube that I never had the time to set up. It needed a stand built and I just didnt have the time for that. So instead I invested a ton of time into a 40B build... But I didnt have to build a stand! Thanks to a Petco $1/gal sale I acquired the tank. Then the stand came shortly after from a LFS in the area - thanks to a friend who picked it up cause I couldnt fit it in my little 2dr coupe. NirvanaandTool
The first fish! A male Redfin Waspfish from DD! (Feb 2012) Redfin 2-25 by ralphreef, on Flickr This guy was pretty shy when first introduced so I didnt have great pics of him til later - we'll get there. Next fish! A big mature Cockatoo Waspfish! 3-01-12-01 by ralphreef, on Flickr 3-01-12-02 by ralphreef, on Flickr FTS with the new guy (March 2012) 3-01-12-11 by ralphreef, on Flickr But I made a BIG mistake with the cockatoo... I didnt QT it. Ich reared its ugly head and I was forced to go 8 weeks of hyposalinity to treat it. Lesson learned. All new fish get 4 weeks of hyposalinity and 2 treatments of prazipro in QT before they enter the DT. Finished hypo, added some macroalgae (June 2012) But by the end of June, the cockatoo passed away. Had these random panic attacks and would spazz around the tank. Stopped eating and eventually passed away. RIP Howard. Shortly after - Tank Move #1 to my parents house from the apartment. Wife and I were house hunting and paying no rent made saving extra for the downpayment worth it enough to move in with my parents for a few months. Fish Tank Mobile. July 2012 - the 40 gets an upgrade But at the same time, the redfin started to show the same symptoms as the previous cockatoo. But this time luckily I had access to a QT and tossed him into it and dropped the temp and salinity. He returned to normal, went back to eating and has healthy as ever. In QT Spike by ralphreef, on Flickr He remained in QT and the 40 remained fallow with a few well seeded rocks out of my brother's 120G's fuge til my wife and I bought a house in South Jersey in Sept 2012. Then he went back into the 40 in the basement (til we finish the upstairs renovation - which is currently stalled cause we are procrastinating). 40 -> 20L ato tank -> angler tank -> 20H QT The new setup by ralphreef, on Flickr It aint pretty but it works... New wasps come in the next post! Link to comment
NirvanaandTool
Cue Nov 2012 and I was itching to get a new fish. And my LFS had just the thing. A nice Longspine or Wispy Waspfish! You can kind of see it behind the wispy. I've exhausted normal methods and am moving onto peroxide treatment now. March 2013 - another new fish! this time I got my second chance at another cockatoo wasp. This time a 3" juvenile. You can't see me. by ralphreef, on Flickr Cockatoo 3-16-13 by ralphreef, on Flickr Cockatoo 4-3-13 by ralphreef, on Flickr Face is just starting to turn white. white face by ralphreef, on Flickr And that's where I'm at right now. Cockatoo made it through 2 treatments of prazi and is onto the first week of hypo now. After the cockatoo is done in QT I'm on the hunt for a fuzzy dwarf lion or a fu manchu lion. Or maybe a dwarf zebra. Some sort of lion... Phew... summing up a year's worth of tank build and progress is hard work! Link to comment

NirvanaandTool
Thanks! I'm thinking a Fu manchu lion and either a fuzzy dwarf or a zebra. And maybe a longnose hawk or a small scorpion as a last fish. I think I can do 5-6 fish in that tank with standard maintenance. Nice! I've been on there from the start - great forum for people into the predator side of SW. And things should get better once Greg and Renee start up their Things with Stings live fish section of the site. They are going to be selling pre-QT'd and pre-weaned lionfish and other predators. NirvanaandTool
It's not tough to wean one. All 4 of my fish (including my stubborn angler) were weaned by yours truly. Just takes a little patience. Some like the fuzzy are easier than others (zebra, fu). Link to comment

NirvanaandTool
Awesome! I'm going to work on getting good pics of the juvenile cockatoo wasp soon - need to do a wc to her QT tank and then its onto new pics. She has 3 weeks left of hypo then probably 1 week to bring her back to normal salinity before she goes into the 40. Link to comment
