The delivery guy said he'd be here at 11 and is now an hour and a half late...so I figured I could use this time to start my RSM 250 thread. :)

I contemplated where to put it for a long time, and finally decided to ditch my Dracula's Pub and turn it into The Tank Room. I'm still not so sure that I was ready to get rid of the Pub, but the thought of having the utility room turned into a lab/frag room right next door seems like a fantastic idea.

Before:

After (still waiting for the delivery guy...)

And The Lab:

We still have a lot to do in the lab...there will be frag tanks, a quarantine tank, and I need to find somewhere to put my 20 gallon. Eventually, the door that you can see in the tank room pic will be taken out and a Nano in the wall tank will be there, too.

I'm going to try to keep it stock, although I will probably need to add a chiller after reading reviews. I plan on stocking it similar to my old 72 gallon (pic in sig) softies, LPS, SPS , a few fish and maybe a clam or two if I can get away with it under the T5s. I still have the same rock that I kept after the breakdown of the 72...it has been cooking in a trash barrel in the lab for a few months.

This has been the longest hour in history...the delivery guy still isn't here yet! It's been 8 hours since he called...WTF!?

The delivery guy finally showed up at about 8:30 PM~~ 9 1/2 hours late! We put it together and got the sand in and went to bed around 2AM. This thing is BEAUTIFUL! I love everything about it so far. I hope that doesn't change once I get everything into it.

It took me all day to decide on the rock formation. I must have changed it over 20 times. I like how this one looks, and there are lots of places to put my corals, plus little holes for the fish to swim through.

Tank cycled pretty quick, and we got through the diatom bloom, so I added some fish...everyone is doing well and getting along great. I have a black clown, orange clown, smallest yellow tang I've ever seen, and a trio +1 zebra dartfish. The yellow tang (Billy Longsnout) had been in quarantine for a while and was added first. The rest came from Liveaquaria (the trio was from Diver's Den). The clowns (Carmen & Freddie) are already hanging out together. The dartfish (Boss Hog, Luke, Bo, & Daisy) were funny to watch. The single guy hid in a hole, and the trio stayed together...then the trio all crammed in the single guy's hole and brought him out to join their little shoal. :D I still can't get over how big they are. They were supposed to be 2 1/2 -3 inches and they are more like 4-5 inches.

I love the scape in your RSM! You are off to a great start with this build!

Very nice, I like the scape quite a bit :)

Thanks, guys! :)

OMG I love that first pic of the Dracula pub! Tank is looking great, the 4 darts are awesome :)

Haha...people either loved it or hated it. I collect Gemmy lifesize Halloween animatronics and have quite a big display during October. The Pub was the only thing that would stay up year round, but now they are all packed up and the bar got moved upstairs. It's a lot easier to explain my fish tanks, than a room full of vampires and skeletons, though ;)

Note: Don't forget to turn on the fan in the morning, and then turn it off at night! The temps have been staying around 78 in the morning and getting up to 79-80 in the evening, which is pretty good since I have read about heat issues on these. Yesterday, I forgot to turn the fan on in the morning, and the tank got up to 83 degrees last night, so I shut the lights off and turned the fan on. I forgot to shut the fan off and it was at 75 degrees this morning! The heater is pretty much useless.

This tank is finally coming together, and I've been adding frags from the 20H. I was battling a green algae dust on the back and glass for a couple of weeks and finally just left the lights off for a little over 24 hours and it has been gone for a few days now. I have carbon and Purigen in the back and I just bought a media rack from LM, so I think I'll add some CPE and remove the carbon when that arrives. All parameters are in range except for Alk that seems to be lowering pretty fast, so I have been dosing for that to keep it at 9 dkh, and I do 20 gallon water changes once a week.

I'm not happy with the 10k look from the lights, so I'll be swapping the bulbs with some ATI aquablue and coral plus soon.

Anyway, here's the newest FTS taken tonight with my iphone4...

Adding more corals! :D I finally picked up my big black and gold crocea today. This guy is large...the shell is 6 inches+ and it's over 8 inches with the mantle open. I named him Fritter!

A pretty neat video of my big crocea helping to feed the fish by blowing the frozen brine at them! Check it out...

Very nice! How large is this tank?

Thanks! It's 66 gallons.

I am determined to keep the back wall of this thing clean of algae! I've been scraping the glass with a razor blade, and scrubbing the overflow and returns with filter floss once a week, as well as a 20 gallon water change. It's working so far :) I have been having a few issues with nitrates being between 5-10 and a few spots of cyano, so I removed the stock sponges, and am running CPE and Purigen along with filter floss in 3 chambers. Hopefully it works!

Billy Longsnout and Emma Blacklips now eat out of my hand which is pretty neat.

Here's a video of that, and some new pics that I took today. I moved a couple of things around and added some new sps frags.

This is a great looking tank! Love the scape and everything is looking pretty healthy. I've been snooping around on the RSM 250 and it seems to be the consensus among aquarists that you love it, or you hate it. I was concerned about the ability to perform maintenance on the filtration system in the back of the tank, primarily accessibility if it's shoved up against a wall. I've noticed in your FTS you had some space between it and the wall. Have you moved it? Did you provide space exactly for that reason? Besides the aforementioned problems you have had with the system including the heater and stock filtration, have you had any other major gripes with it?

Thanks! So far, I love it. I really don't have any major gripes about it. There really isn't anything that can't be altered. The skimmer takes a while to figure out, but it's fine now, and I would like to change out the bulbs for ATI. I do have it set up away from the wall in case I need to get behind it, but so far I can do everything from standing on a step ladder at the sides or front of the tank. There is no moving it's once full...it was over 300 lbs without anything in it!

Really nice tank, but if it's under 4ft then the tangs will eventually outgrow it...

Thanks. I'm not afraid of the tang police... :P
