Can't vote because I don't have one, but, curious of what anyone has to say as it looks like it has potential. Wonder if you could run purigen it it....

I saw these guys on BRS and contemplated picking one up for GFO.

The second question depends more on what the problem is in your tank. If you are having a lot of algae growth then Biopellets are probably a better solution but if you have minimal algae but your SPS are looking a little brown then GFO is the way to go I think.

I picked one up and I am current running GFO in it.

Feels pretty sturdy nothing cheap feeling. Easy easy assembly. Very simple to dial in the flow once you find the two slots to match up. It's rated up to 38 gallons and I'm running about 45, but has enough capacity for media to house the recommend amount from manufacture.

So it sounds like you are enjoying it. I was really impressed with it when I first saw it. Build quality looks very nice. And the removable chamber looks great as well. Any complaints? How loud is it?

I am happy with it so far. I have not had a reactor before so not much to compare to. Canister can hold enough of any media for my size tank/sump (45g). It is silent, no questions about it. Low power, no change in heat.

It looks like a solid reactor. The only thing that was holding me back from buying it was the lack of a return line to direct to a skimmer. Not a big deal if you are just going to run GFO and no BP's.

I think I still may give it a try. I'll just have to get creative with its placement if I run BP's

About a month running-

Have found it very easy to change the media.

-Simply pull inner column and watch as it drains.

Simple to dial in flow of reactor

-Turn dial and watch as it lines up with inner column

Pump seems solid and is silent.

I have found it works well in my tank and it is slightly undersized for my tank. (45g)

Wish the lower plug could be removed for cleaning.

I don't know If I would run BP in it, but could you explain why it is needed to be by a skimmer?

Biopellets should always be run with a skimmer to export the nutrients. The bacteria encouraged by the biopellets consume the nutrients, but you then need to somehow remove the bacteria, which is accomplished by the skimmer.

So non-reactor guy question...

I get why not to mix media when it comes to hardness and exhausted media time...but if you over look exhaustion rate.

Could you not do a sponge, carbon, sponge, GFO, and top sponge set-up? Least then the media doesn't get turned to dust.

Just looking at the manufactor specs on how much carbon/GFO I need, they are way under the 350mL capacity of my unit.

I run 3 different medias in mine, the end up separating within the chamber into their own layers.

carbon/phosguard/po4x4

Tristan purchased the desktop size to use in his PicO. Here's his review. As you can tell from his pictures, his water quality looks absolutely stunning.

I ordered one today, and I'd be happy to report here after I get it working. They must be very popular as they were OOS on BRS and MarineDepot when I ordered. Ended up getting it from PremiumAquatics.

I run GFO and Rox carbon in mine with great results. I am going to sell my bigger one and buy 2 smaller ones. Only because I have limited room in my sump.

I tried the full amount of Fauna Marin Ultra Phos and E.S.V. Carbon and it didn't not work...but wasn't ideal. But works great with 1/2 the recommended amount of each. So with second reactor I might run half in each, keep one in back of RSM and one in sump.

I have the desktop version running in my PicO 12.5g. Hands down one of the best purchases I've made. It's been running for about 2 weeks now and I use brs rox carbon and brs gfo, changing media literally takes minutes.

love these reactors. Running 2 in my sump right now. GFO and rox carbon.

So what would the suggestion be- one for carbon one for GFO? Or a carbon/GFO mix in each? One reactor will be in the sump the other we be in the back of the RSM.

I have yet to install my mini max but in the 2 fishies I have always run it with carbon and GFO. ROX pulverizes in a reactor so BRS suggested their small particle lignite carbon instead.

I have done the 50/50 mix in both reactors for the time being. Nice separation between GFO and carbon.

PhosGuard works quite well with the MiniMax; safe bet MatrixCarbon and SeaGel would as well. Purigen best run in a bag, even with double sponge it managed to makes its way out.

I'm currently running Fauna Marine Ultra Phos and it work well but about 1/4 is it bit to heavy to truly tumble.
