hey everyone! im new to this forum, My names Evan, im 22 and i live in Canada. i have had just about every type of aquarium so im familiar with a lot of stuff, but open to all comments and suggestions!

i had to get out of the reef hobby about two years ago because i had to move out of town for school. Now that im back and living on my own, i decided to start a small tank. i went with a BioCube 14 since i didnt have alot of room atm, plus where im living right now is only temp so i needed something small enough to move quickly!

i started my build about a week ago, and this is the progress i have up until now!

the day i got the tank!

couple days later i built myself a stand, based off the dimension of the actual biocube 14 stand but taller and made waaaaay stronger!

the aquascaping i have so far, most likely will change.

and thats all up until today! i have the saltwater in buckets waiting to be put in! now comes a waiting game.

lol thanks! i really liked the biocube stand, just that i dont trust manufactured stands. heard to many stories of them falling apart after a couple years, and since i like wood working and my dad has all the tools, i just built my own! i always have for every tank ive owned. plus its half the price, more sturdy and to the specs i want it!

i had a very hard time scaping, definitely a challenge. my last tank (40 breeder) was fun to scape, when i get a more permanent home ill upgrade to a a 75 or 90 lol but until then this will have to do.

What paint did you use to paint the stand (I Like it). Also in the process of building a stand as well. Do you think 2x3 will work just as good i already have them on hand and is that MDF wood you used for the sides and door.

Thanks: Chris

the paint, i just got a gallon of flat black from home depot, the only thing was that after a couple coats it marked up really easy so i bought a couple spray bombs of "Clear Laquer" about 7$ a can. it just gives it extra protection from marking it up and water.

2x3 is what i used, and it still probably overkill for a tank this size but i rather be safe than sorry lol.

yea i used 1/2" MDF cause i wanted to paint it and not stain it, i usually use oak but whats the point of putting oak on just to paint it black lol.

so i wanted to try Dr. Tims one and only live nitrifying bacteria, so i got myself a 4oz bottle when i ordered all my equipment. im going to make a mini log to see if it actually will start up my cycle and shorten it. All the parameters starting off at zero and seeing what happens. will test water daily.

Day 1
29/01/13

-Added 4oz bottle of Dr. Tims one and only live nutrifying bacteria.
-tested with API Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate test kits

Parameters:
Ammonia-0
Nitrites-0
Nitrates-0

This is what i used

the tank instantly turned cloudy

Did you put in shelves, if so you got any pics of the inside off you cabinet. I started building my stand today.

no i didnt put any shelves in it, i have put shelves in my other stands and never used them so i said screw it. Maybe if i need it in the future i will.

Update!

the tank only took 9 days to fully cycle, got 0 for nitrites and ammonia and 0-5ppm for nitrates. going to add a CUC in the next week or so.

Has anyone had a biocube cycle just as quick without using the Dr. Tims One and Only stuff?

heres a couple of new upgrades i got for my tank!

When i received my intank media basket, the water flow director had a piece broken off. i immediately contacted Intank and they sent me out a new one free of charge and with the tracking info, all within an hr. i was really impressed by Intank, i give them mad props for that! will definitely buy from them again

Hi Delucs, I know this is an old thread but I'm hoping you''ll read this. Just a quick question: when building the stand for your biocube, the material you used to go over the 2x4 frame; is that MDF board, particle board, or plywood? Thanks for your help, great post by the way.

Oops, sorry about that, I just realized that somebody had already asked the same question and you answered it, I should have read the entire thread before asking.
