Julian_blnc
Well after searching through the forums, I could not find any thread that had been established to discuss or review Par 38 bulbs. I may be wrong however. If anyone who has Par38 bulbs, would like to talk about growth, coverage, mods, different brands. Feel free! Link to comment

Julian_blnc
Loving my two PAR38 bulbs, I am getting even coverage with a reef breeders PAR38 and a rapid led Par38 10 in from the surface on my 30x18 in tank. Really pulls out the color in my Wellso and acans Anyone looking to upgrade from t-5 or Metal Halife I would highly recommend these. Budget friendly and if your just starting a tank you can buy one and then another down the road, when you get more coral, Plug and play!!! Maybe I will come back after I get some more time, but I am of course a big fan! What kind of bulb are you using ledtric ftw!!!! mike is by far the best to buy a light from. I think im going to purchase one of these next All I have to say is that I love my Ecoxotics! I have the 20k and they are gorgeous! I have a little bit of everything under them with tons of growth! Awesome to hear! How far are yours above the tank, pictures of sps growth!! Link to comment
evan127
My lights are 9 inches off the surface of the water and 19 inches from the sand bed. I can get some pictures up soon and I'll try to find an old picture of my SPS too. Link to comment

SaltWaterNewb
So will one par38 provide enough coverage over a 20g long tank? Looking to keep zoas and other similar easy to keep corals. Link to comment

Not a chance. You will have major shadows on the ends of your tank. I have an OC reef dimmable par 38 over my 12 by 20 inch tank it works great you should check them out. Link to comment

Depending on the optics I would say 3 is the minimum on a 20g long, that is with shadows and growing easy softies. Link to comment

Coverage no light yes if you put the light in the middle of the tank you will get maybe 15 in of light I would do one par38 and then in a fw months when you get more coral get the second my tank is nearly the same dimensions as a 20 long and I'm using two. But I used one for a little while. It kept the coral alive just looked a little funky Depending on the optics I would say 3 is the minimum on a 20g long, that is with shadows and growing easy softies. I have a 30inx 18in and I'm getting no shadows with two bulbs I'm only keeping Lps though Link to comment

Probably not for a 20 long. I have mine over my 15 gallon (24") now with no optics and I'm only getting shadows because of how I rescaped my rock. Shadows fall behind the right pillar. Other than that its great. I'm still getting another one though. Link to comment
SaltWaterNewb
Thanks. I'll invest in two to start if I go this route then. Maybe two with 60 or 90 coverage? Does the wider coverage reduce depth of penetration? Not sure that would be an issue on a 20L since they are fairly shallow (12 1/2" top to bare bottom), but maybe it is. I'm new to the LED light thing. Link to comment
Chew_Magna
I originally had 90* optics on mine but I was getting some pretty heavy spotlight/disco ball. I tried taking them off and haven't looked back. Link to comment
SaltWaterNewb
I see. I'll definitely keep that in mind then. Link to comment
Cullent17
I have had my bright aquatics dimmable full spec with 90 degree optics over my 12g cadlights tank. I think the light is awesome. Can anyone see why I would need to add a second light to this tank ~ 15x12 "? Would any corals require more light? Also does anyone have any tips for photographing these lights? I have an SLR but these were take with an iPhone I can't seem to get a uniform exposure. The image is always bright white by the light and then darker in the tank. Specifically chew_magna. Your pics looks awesome what are you using and how are you using it to take pictures like that? Link to comment
