The Blu Reef 29 gallon Biocube

So I made the plunge into the salty game after rocking the fresh water set ups on and off for over 30yrs.

My older brother used to tell my how much a pain in the arse his 75 gallon salty was ,so it kept me from trying it.

To start off I seached online and finally found a great deal via http://www.marinedepot.com/ , which saved me about $150 bucks compaired to LFS and other websites.

Well that allowed me to spend that $150 on live sand, live rock and 25 gallons of R/O saltwater from the LFS.

29 Gallon Coral Life Biocube includes

13 lbs of Fuji Live rock from TnT Fish and Reef (LFS)

20 lbs of Caribsea Arag- Alive Indo-Pacific Black

So yesterday I finally added a Hydor Koralia 425. Thinking of adding a second with a wave maker.

Just adding one improved the flow and the cleared up the dead spots in the back of my tank.

Next I'm going to replace the stock pump soon. Just looking into which one is best.

Here are some updated pictures.

4 months now and things are looking great. A few of the frags (jedi Monti, Purple Stylo and the Duel Branching hammers) are going to be moved to my 48 gall along with my Carpenter Fairy Wrasse in about a month once my lights come in .

End of the year update.

Nov marked the 2 yr anniversary of when I first set up my first ever marine /coral set up.

Dec marked the 2 yr of having live stock in it. I've broke this tank down once when I moved it to another end of the Blu room.

As you'll see I've made many changes over the year.

So I went and did it and made this a Zoanthus ,Palythoa, and mushroom specific tank.

I also have a nice red blasto , red blood shrimp , mixed snails ,hermits, a peppermint shrimp and fighting conch.

1 juv Perc Clown.

My plan is to pimp it out with a zoa wall and start slanging some shrooms.

Also adding more inverts and one more fish.

check out the before

and after Christmas videos.

It's working out great so far,I ended up buying a strip of Blue Led's for moon lighting. The kids (me included) love the way it looks at night under actinic.

If I could do it all over again I'd go with the new 160W since you can fool with the color more.

as far as growth I've seen some zoanthids explode and some just pop a head or two here and there.

Now the mushrooms on the other hand have been popping babies all over the place.

Since I'm running the 2nd chamber with Cheato / live rock and a light ,I currently have no plans on running a skimmer so

I ended up making this a Zoa/Paly/mushroom tank.

As far as live stock I have as follows...

1 Mandiran Dragonet

1 fighting conch

1 red blood shrimp

1 peppermint shrimp

1 skunk cleaner shrimp

3 bumble bee shrimp

a few blue legged hermits

a few torch snails

3 heads of Red Blasto

Got to add a little pleasure to business huh? I went to Miami last year and never thought about going to a LFS, since that would tick my wife off on vacation LOL.

Heck yeah, we're lucky down here now a days when it comes to LFS .

The one I recommend for healthy, high end sexy coral selection is http://fjwaquarium.com/ ,talk to Dennis.

We have a few more places around town like Cinco Ranch Aquariums, TnT Fish and Reef, The Fish Gallery and City Pets.

Next month Houston is hosting it's 2nd Annual Reef Currents http://www.reefcurrents.org/,

Welcome to Houston and I hope you enjoy your stay.
