Arkayology
Finally have some new pics! New ASD rainbow mille. It is a small piece, but it has some nice color. Nice shot of the growth from the Steve Elias blue stag, but also has a view of the 3rd reboot of the same hawkins I have had (and lost 3 times) for years now. Also, you can see some of the green birdsnest growing. Now sure what I am going to do about that. Bad pic of the miyagi tort. It is growing well and recovering from the STN from over the summer. I moved it higher because my GBTA was moved and was a little too close to it for my liking. It is higher and is getting more flow now I think. It is a happy coral. and my beast of a setosa. This coral is really taking over the rock it is on. I fear I may have to do some serious pruning in a couple months. 10 Quote Link to comment
kimberbee
That setosa is a beast! Mine grows amazingly fast, but keeps getting bumped and has snapped in half. Now, instead of a two inch frag, I have two one- inch frags... 1 Quote Link to comment

CrazyCarl
Ark. How do you like the Aquamaxx ConeS CO1 Skimmer? Thinking about purchasing one. I have an Aquamaxx HOB-1 that I felt was top notch in quality and design. Just wondering if you have any complaints so far. Can't find any negative reviews. 1 Quote Link to comment

I dropped one once Ditto to everything Eisernes said; it is a great skimmer. very quiet, pulls lots of skim, and is easy to use. I have never gotten a really dark skim out of it but I think it is a little oversized for my tank it is probably not as efficient. Still though, I really like it and would recommend it to anyone. 1 Quote Link to comment

Thanks guys. I have an SCA 302 that I cant seem to reign in. Everything collects in the neck, only time anything goes in the cup is when I change out the filter sock. Going to try and adjust and give it a few more weeks before I pull the trigger. Need to put some fish in next week since I was fallow for almost 2 months. I suspect it wont change too much since I had the same issue when the tank was fully stocked. Anyway, I appreciate the quick responses. Quote Link to comment
Arkayology
I had to emergency frag a big part of my Joe the Coral colony last night. I have continued to battle this weird situation where the tissue just sloughs off of the acros and gets all gooey or something - it turns grey. It's not your regular STN ( I know what that is like ) Fortunately, it is not a portion of the acro that can we seen from the front but I am at a loss as to what to do. I thought it was flow at first, but the gyre has given my tank plenty of added flow now and it has continued. I am hoping now that I have serrated the infected part of the colony from the rest that I will be done with this weird issue. I have a couple rather large frags of Joe the Coral now. I hate to hear that, but glad you were on top of it. Have you considered a bacterial cause? I know some folks are using pretty potent antibiotic dips Quote Link to comment

I know some folks are using pretty potent antibiotic dips I wish I would have taken some pics before I had chopped up the coral so I could see if anyone had any ideas. I have been thinking bacteria but I have no basis for it. I have been looking at threads to see if people have been dipping acros in cipro or something to help treat infections. I'm not really sure what I have but I don't think that dipping is an answer since this colony is well encrusted to the rock. 1 Quote Link to comment
Arkayology
Apparently I have been running my skimmer bubble/airine too high for years. Trying it lower now to see if I can get a better skim. Quote Link to comment
cruzH20polo
How'd you find this out? Quote Link to comment
picoreef78
Found a lot of AEFW on the of my corals, dipped them, scrapped off eggs, toothbrushed them and water jetted them to get rid of eggs. I might have to treat the tank. What would be a good product? Quote Link to comment
Arkayology
How'd you find this out? There's a long aquamax coneS c-01 thread on RC that I was reading that pointed out where the line should be - I was running it at the neck of my skimmer when it should have an inch lower to allow a foam head to form better. Found a lot of AEFW on the of my corals, dipped them, scrapped off eggs, toothbrushed them and water jetted them to get rid of eggs. I might have to treat the tank. What would be a good product? That sucks, they are the worst to get rid of. The only way to truly get rid of them is to dip weekly for 3 months in a QT tank while letting your DT go acro fallow. I don't have personal experience with them however, so there may be an easier way. I don't think any single product, like flatworm stop, will help even with repeated uses. Quote Link to comment

Dramad1
Curious, when you first set up this skimmer, did it overflow the collection cup like crazy? How long did it take for you to be able to dial it in and be able to pull the type of skim mate you wanted? I have the cones-co2 model and can not get it to stop overflowing. It has been sitting in my sump for 3 weeks now turned off, trying to build up a slime coat, I have turned it on once a week for a few hours at a time and leaving the catch cup off, I am currently in 9.25" of water, I have tried lowering a far as 10" and raising it as high as 7.75". Stand pipe closed, doubles the overflow rate, fully open about half as much. I have been searching many forums for info. I'm doing everything everyone else is doing and it just keeps overflowing. Will the overflowing subside after 24 hours? I'm thinking of putting an air valve on the silencer so I can adjust the air it's pulling in. Not sure what to do at this point. Wait it out? Just was curious how yours set up and how long it took you to dial it in. Quote Link to comment

Just was curious how yours set up and how long it took you to dial it in. My skimmer was overflowing like crazy when I first set it up. It was doing that because the skimmer outlet plastic piece was not correctly installed. Are you sure that the clear piece of plastic where the water exits your skimmer is actually correctly installed? I had assumed mine was because it was already set up out of the box, but it was loose in the stand pipe. A quick correction of this made things better. I was able to get the skimmer to start pulling a good amount of skim after about 2 days, but I am still tweaking it as it has never been as dark as other people's pictures. I think I need to experiment with different skimmer heights - I am at 9'' atm. Quote Link to comment
Dramad1
Thanks for the quick reply, much appreciated. I have not checked the outlet since like you said it came pre assembled. I will check this out and see if it corrects my issues. I put the catch cup back on, pulled the drain plug and have it dumping into a sock to reduce the micro bubbles in the sump. I'll check the stand pipe and let it run for 24-48 hours to see if the overflowing stops. Thanks for the help. 1 Quote Link to comment
Dramad1
Yup, that seems to be the source of the problem, I was able to push it in 1/4" or so and it reduced the overflowing 90%. It is still barely overflowing so I'm going to let it run for a few days and let it settle, then try to make adjustments. Thanks for helping me trouble shoot this. 1 Quote Link to comment
