Well. Hi there.

Since I broke my other pico while drilling... And have not got around to fixing it yet... And my pair of custom tanks wont be here for another 4-6weeks... I am using this tank for the 3gallon comp.

Pics.

Tank budget.

543677_377030488985793_100000365358637_1240287_1401832753_n.jpg

Yep. $40 in 20c coins. >.>

One of the bulbs for its lighting.

423374_377030582319117_100000365358637_1240290_779409356_n.jpg

I've got 6 of these. Three blue and three white.

I'm very seriously considering taking them all apart and soldering a white, blue, UV into each bulb...

The tank. Pre-getting cleaned and put into place.

I'm not drilling this tank. Hence.

562477_377030642319111_100000365358637_1240292_2081248057_n.jpg

And the rest of the lights. Still waiting on bases for them.... Or I might just solder them directly and then put them into the light fitting I'm making...

Putting all the pieces together tomorrow afternoon. After the buyer of my TV comes and frees up some space. >.>

Update; All my TV and stereo are gone. Moving the 4foot in and setting up the pico in the next 3-4 hours.

Update: Good things are coming...

Equipment Problems:

Light sockets have not arrived yet.

AC70 is the loudest ####ing thing in the ####ing world. ####.

Heater in my other tank died. So the heater for this tank is in it.

I'm expecting all the things to spontaneously ignite..

Anybody else loving this comp already?

So the tank now has liverock, I'm looking at adding more though.

In other news, I'm on the search for a fish. A fish that is rather common on the other side of Australia. But not so common on my side.

X80520_Pseudomugil_cyanodorsalis.jpg

A neon blue-eye. Its a native Australian fish that lives in brackish to hypersaline waters. (A couple people have managed to breed them @SG0.026)

If I cannot get my hands on a blue-eye, I might have to resort to a basic endler. >.>

For coral stocking. I'm on the lookout for a black sun coral. Which is also proving to be damned near impossible to get my hands on...

Are you putting morr than 6 gu10s over a 3gal?

Tank comes out at 2.3247140509257145gallons. >.>

I will probably only put 3 over the tank. And two over the fuge.

I'm looking at changing out a couple of the LEDs for different colours. ie, 1rb 1uv 1cw in each bulb over the display. And 2cw 1ww for fuge.

Since I plan on NPS coral, I don't think I'll have too big a problem with light.

Looks good so far! Where do you plan on getting the blue eye?

I just got a quote back from Dave Wilson (aqua.green@bigpond.com) on them.

Are you the same person who put a request on Aquarium Life forum. I can send you one fish but it will be very lonely because they are a schooling species of fish by nature. I would suggest 4 males and two females as a minimum. They will live in either full marine up to 50ppt nearly twice as salty as the sea or full fresh. They are happiest in about 5 to 15 ppt but will be perfectly happy inn sea water.

The box we send fish is a 5 litre esky and that wlth freight is $21.50 Toll overnight with the esky and packing material. There is room for 60 blue-back blue-eyes but I suggest you get at least 6. They are very small fish.

If you were not the person that asked about them on Aquarium Life forum I suggest you look at the photos I just put up there. -

http://www.aquariumlife.com.au/showthread....nodorsalis-OR...

What do you think. Throw 60 blue eyes in my tank? <3

In all seriousness I'm actually leaning toward a trio... And if they outgrow the pico, put them in my larger tank.

How long to do you acclimate them to natural sea water?

Those particular ones can be done in hours to a day (And can take double the salinity of NSW). Others take days. And other ones cannot be acclimatised at to full marine.

I'm also looking for a micro goby to put in there. Although the ones I'm looking at have a lifespan less than a year...

How long do you think the Bumble Goby will take?

That really depends. There are four species, but two main ones that are all referred to as bumble bee gobies. Each one takes a different amount of time.

The Brachygobius xanthozona has perfect unbroken black stripes and is best suited for brackish, but will tolerate fresh water much better than the other type. And might not like full marine.

The Brachygobius nunus has less well banded stripes, and occasionally black spots or broken stripes. It is not very tolerant of a fresh water environment. And is your best best bet if you can get it...

The latter type you'd want to acclimatize over about a month. The former two months. (Although you could probably do it faster. I just don't particularly like the idea on doing it quickly.)

I had a problem with the AC70 being retardedly loud. I did a quick duckduckgo search and the best answer I could find was: "I always fix a noisy HOB with a canister."

This inspired me.

I made a plastic box over the hole from the pump I removed...

It held water with the plasic-melting I did to join it together... But a ####ton of silicone never does astray.

A bit of tape so that it doesnt get filled with algae growth...

551523_381237978565044_100000365358637_1252766_551732958_n.jpg

I need to neaten it up. But it is working like a champion.

541417_381238055231703_100000365358637_1252767_605767603_n.jpg

I'm not worried about neatening it up untill I get my lights setup and working. I'm still waiting for the GU10 sockets to arrive... I might just end up soldering to the lights if these sockets don't turn up soon...

Semi-update.

I might be getting a couple Pandaka lidwilli for this tank.

294856_248010345221142_100000365358637_849091_7667407_n.jpg

Pic is from the last pair that I had... Such a long time ago.

My biggest problem is going to be getting them eating. And being 1.6 cm = 0.6 in (ones in the picture are 1.3cm)... You can imagine how fun they are to feed. >.>

I have to make a 6 hour round trip to get them, and I might not even find them.

I ask. Do I get a couple of Pandaka lidwilli and give up on having a sun coral? Or do I go with the Pseudomugil cyanodorsalis I linked in the picture further up and get a sun coral?

So you don't think I should get:

398964_381485021873673_100000365358637_1253549_832039205_n.jpg

and run a black sun coral... (I've always wanted a sun coral... >.> )

But should get the miniature gobys and coral less likely to make a meal out of them?

Those fishies look awesome!

Which canister filter are you running? and why are you still using the AC70? Extra room for filtration or fuge?

I would go for a sun coral! they look ugly when closed up, but amazing when they want to be fed!

My 2ct ;)

A lot of the aussie natives are pretty interesting.

The canister is a super cheapy from ebay. The canister will be run empty until I can get some more baserock to put in there.

I'm keeping the AC70 for filtration... I'm thinking either fuge or mame skimmer. I have not made up my mind.

Trying to get a sun coral small enough for the tank is posing to be a problem. Hence why I'm looking into strange things to stock it with. >.>

I've got around to doing a little work on my lights... I'm using GU10 lights but my sockets have not come... So I'm not using sockets.

I also wanted to mix my light a little better than having bulbs packed closely so I decided to move some of the LED's around...

One of the bulbs has 3w blue leds... Just because I can...

578430_385683284787180_100000365358637_1269408_1164360154_n.jpg

Now. There is a reason that taking the bulbs apart is a bad idea. You get to see things like this...

553159_385683418120500_100000365358637_1269409_1063807448_n.jpg

I am not suprised this bulb didn't work when I first tested it... Now I know why.

Light fitting should be done by this evening or tomorrow.

Well. I just got home after 5 days away.

I got 3 mangrove shoots in the mail that are now sitting in the tank. My lights died while I was away...*Sigh* My black and white clown gobys in my main tank are gone without a trace. Last but not least, there is at least one hitch hiker I've never seen before in the little tank. >.>

Looks like I'm going to have to rig up a temp light...

So. I quickly threw together a light.

Its using 4xCW 1w and 5xRB 3w.

I still need to make a hanging arm. And make a WW 3x3watt light for the mangroves.

So the pico finally has something in it.

I got a couple of Zoas with some hair algae on them.

562425_396042913751217_100000365358637_1293189_2013784939_n.jpg

I think the algae will probably be gone within a week or so. If not, I'll worry about it then.

And then I have this snail.

533907_396043283751180_100000365358637_1293190_851630904_n.jpg

He drove out of my fowlr tank. Across my wall. And into the pico.

So. I now have red mangrove props, 4 zoa heads and whatever species of snail that is...

Looks good nice job on LEDs

Thankyou. Although this is just what I was able to throw together from parts I had laying around... I'm looking at getting proper drivers for them and adding another 6x3watt leds. (Two UV, two CW, two WW)

The drivers they are running from currently limit the current more the hotter they get. So in the middle of the day my 3w leds are running at ~1.9w and in the mornings/evenings they are ~3.5w. Which I really do need to get around to fixing.
