First time RoDi filter help

I got this RoDi filter for free . This is my first one and I have no idea how it works, my question is I'm getting less water from the blue tube than the black tube which I'm guessing is waste water. Does this sound and looks correct?

Black is waste, blue is output.

So is it normal to have more waste than output?

It's suppose to be a 1 to 4 waste ratio so 4 times more waste than good water.

Alright thanks that's what it look like right now. I just need to test the water to see if its safe, any cheap TDS testers out there?

Buckeye Field Supply has the HM Digital TDS-3 for $22.

Spectrapure has the same meter for $25

 

Do not get the TDS EZ, its less money but does not have the sensitivity or accuracy the TDS-3 or TDS-4TM have for $5 more. They both also have a built in digital thermometer so serve dual purpose.

Thanks again for all the help! Anybody know how to put a float valve into a 5 gallon bottle? I don't have the luxury of room for one of those giant water container.

Use a 5 gallon salt bucket with a tight fitting lid. That or something like a small Rubbermaid tote with a lid.
