Smallest Heater?

To res a hella old thread. Youd rather have a mildly undersize heater than oversize in case it fails in the on position it doesn't boil your tank. All heaters that fail in the off position have the same outcome a cooler (temp) tank. Heaters that fail in the on position, that are oversize, have disasterous results.

So I guess size really does matter.

You can pick up a temperature controller for $10-20 (STC-1000) and one of the Deep Blue Professional Betta Stik or Heat Stik. They come in 7.5W, 15W, 30W, or 60W. They are set a little high for reefs, somewhere around 80-84F, but if the temperature controller were to fail, the tank won't heat up too much too quickly before you had the chance to catch it or notice something was wrong. It will be a bit warm and stress the corals, but not coock them to death as long as you didn't over size it too much.
