Do the first one with fishies!! :D Who needs savings? you can be a hobo with a sick reef tank

There's a hobo in Burbank that has this solar power contraption that runs his radio and I'm sure other things. Only in California do the homeless have/use solar power technology

I shall live vicariously through your decision, whatever it is. Make it a good one. I need some vicarious living right now !!

So, did you make any decisions?

No

Don't get a chili coral, they are nps and don't do well in aquaria. Replace it with another SPS or LPS. :)

Really? I assumed nps would be easy haha.

Maaaaybe I'll go with SeaLife Inc after my next paycheck. I have a $20 credit at Saltwaterfish.com but can't use it in conjunction with any other coupon code. So that'd barely cover shipping. I really want that stylo.... But I've also been lurking on my local reef forum cause local coral from other hobbyists is usually way cheaper, especially softies. Seems like everyone in Atlanta hates softies and measure their **** length in SPS.

Photo dump while the bosses are at lunch :ninja: I really hate this job

I went to the aquarium last week.

A manta ray pooped and all the tangs went after it.

2012-03-21_16-11-40_930.jpg

Travally.

2012-03-21_16-10-11_191.jpg

They had a nifty frog temporary frog exhibit.

2012-03-21_16-46-51_281.jpg

Funny looking spherical fish in the small coldwater tank that no one looks at (except me apparently) and it's health is declining.

2012-03-21_16-27-10_88.jpg

The second, larger coldwater tank has a pacific octopus and is overall much healthier. In all the time I've been, I've only seen the octopus once.

The few live corals in their tropical diver tank are growing out.

Not much to put this photo in perspective but these hairy shrooms were huuuuge. I want one.

And now, a photo dump from my tank last night. Have I mentioned how much I love my magnifying glass?

Dern flatworms. I'll get Flatworm Exit one of these days.

The colors keep changing and I'm not sure if its good or bad. I'm pretty sure, though, that the brownish part on the front is algae. I moved my Koralia to the other side and pointed it directly at the monti.

2012-03-26_17-46-10_982.jpg

The little red monti is coming along nicely. Recovering from having no red whatsoever on it.

2012-03-26_17-43-01_948.jpg

I hope that spongey thing doesn't get bigger and affect my blastos. Also, I think I might rehome Pierre. He's a pig and makes all my coral close when trying to feed them.

2012-03-26_21-04-26_411.jpg

Shrimp organs.

2012-03-26_21-04-39_27.jpg

The Petco yumas have grown. See the few on the back row extending up?

2012-03-26_17-50-23_614.jpg

They closed when I was moving the Koralia. This is the only way I can attempt to count them. Definitely over 32.

2012-03-26_21-02-55_333.jpg

I always forget I have that cabbage leather stuff haha.

This little guy has visited me at work for two days now.

2012-03-23_15-31-43_2.jpg

Now for the sad news. My porcelain crab has perished :( Not sure why. Maybe not enough food? It's harder to gauge if they're getting fed when you can't see them eat meaty food. He never came out much anyway. But I enjoyed examining it  At first I thought it had molted... but the shell isn't translucent and I haven't seen it.

And finally, a full tank shot.

Great picture dump!!!!!!

Are you sure that's not a molt???? Looks like it to me. The way I tell is by crunching it and if there's no "meat", it's a molt. The molts aren't necessarily transparent.

The legs and claws feel like they have meat in them. I'll try dissecting it later lol. I haven't thrown it away.....

Gena is right, as always. I still find it amazing how real the molt looks.

Great pic dump! In all my life I have never seen manta ray poop.

Freaky real. When he did actually pass he smelled BAD. Hopefully yours is just a molt :)

That is freaky real. Hmm... It's really hard to tell. I'll let y'all know when I get home.

Where do you work?

I am the creative director for a small manufacturing company. By small, I mean 6 employees; three in the office and three in the back make an alcohol product. They hired me, a graphic designer, before a marketer, and think they can just market themselves on their own and they can't and it's frustrating. In my position, it's a dead-end job.

I had a good looking emerald crab that arrived DOA. I put it outside and it dried, didn't smell so I put a little AC glue in each joint and them sprayed a few coats of spar varathane. Kinda wierd, I know, but kinda cool too.

Link to comment

haha not weird. I'd do that too if I didn't just smash it to pieces.

So what do y'all think? Dead or molt? Doesn't seem to be a lot of meat if I was stranded on an island. This is a few days old. If it's a molt, how could it have gotten out and left that honeycomb looking stuff inside?

In other news, Stranger the hitch hiker crab has really gotten brave. Disregard the evil caulerpa. I've been busy.

Also...that's a molt...I'm a crab expert....I dissect them a million times a summer when I eat them loo.... hard shell crabs like this can take up to 3 or four weeks to create a new shell and come out of hiding because they're new shell is soft....mmmm soft shell crabs

Also...crabs are insects ;p and probably the best insect to eat lol

(ssskkk) 10-4 go ahead (ssskkk)

I'm watching you (You're Dabnus Shamer, right?) draw an awesome penguin. I wish my phone was bigger and the touch screen more responsive. I need to get a new one soon. Mine is getting old.

It's a great debate....

Well then... we'll have to wait 3-4 weeks to see what happens. I loooove eating crab. Especially crab cakes.
