like-fish
Well the BTA decided to find a spot in the back of the tank where he could just get enough light. Unacceptable! There were some changes needed and this was my opportunity. Problems: 1) My scape looked cool but it created too many caves and overhangs which reduced my area to place corals. 2) Soo much of my rockwork was too high in the tank. My lower light corals did not favor the intensity and it was difficulty to view what was up there. 3) The damsel had to GO! 4) The saddlbacks have turned into monsters and constanly dig in the sand and bury corals. i also worry that as they are so obnoxious and rough they will love my BTA to death if they decide to host. Soooo... I set up several bins on the floor and the rescape began! All the rock came out. I removed what corals had could from the baserock. Captured the damsel and saddlebacks. Spent a good amout of time rescaping around my new nem. Very pleased with the final result! After several days of placing corals I am happy with the final product. Nem is happy in his now, noone complained about the rescape, everone open and happy. I did several minor water changes just in case of a mini cycle but have detected no problems. and the BTA proudly displayed. He is veryimpressive in person! Link to comment

athfrocks
Nice looking tank, I have a question about the LED upgrade you did from aquastyles and I'm hoping you can help!! Were you able to use the stock fans with the led kit? I am at the end of my own assembly and used BBOSS' guide, but can figure out how to get the fans to cut on with the white light array. Thanks! like-fish
Jan 2013 FTS: Tank was rolling along nicely and then algae started to appear. I tried water changes, cleaning the rocks, decreased feeding. Everything but a black out period. I have been listening to the buzz about algae scrubbers lately and decided to give it a shot. No mechanical filtration, no skimmer, no chemicals, no caeto, Just a screubber. I built one into the second chamber of my tank and removed the existing setup (probrably mistake #1). The new scrubber was devoid of life and providing no filtration. After 3 weeks in use it is growing like crazy but my corals dont seem impressed. My zoas are loosing color, my cloves are not a full as usual and the few SPS in the tank have decreased polyp extension. Going to try to find my nutrient sweet spot. Most of my attention has gone to my 120 but I am still a big fan of my BC29. Just wish i could add a sump! My 120: Link to comment
like-fish
added an algae scruber to the BC. It has been in use for a month now and i have zoas closing, loss of color in zoas and cloves. In general I am not impressed. It went offline today. back to caeto and weekly 5gal H2O changes. It worked so well before. Kinda mad that I changed it to start with. O-well, never know if i dont try! Link to comment

like-fish
Time for some more updates. I have found that the secret to growth and coloration for me is my feeding. I have my lights dialed in with very low level white on for 4 hours with 12 hours of 3/4 power royal blue. Feeding is now done with home made fish food consisting of ground seafood mix, FUEL product, various pellets and flake food and reef chili all tossed in the blender with RODI water and turned into a fine mush. This mis is loved by all in the tank and my corals love it as well. Problem is so does algae! I still adhere to my 5 gal a week but the string algae is creeping in a bit more. I added a pouch of ChemiPure Elite and am now focusing on manual removal. I have a pouch of purigen on its way that will go in as well. Nothing is ever easy, still trying to find the balance. I found that my Camcorder takes great pictures and does a better job with white balace than my phone. here are my latest PICS...enjoy! http://s1262.photobucket.com/user/like-fish1/media/9-13BCpicfirefish_zps31e8a304.jpg.html'> http://s1262.photobucket.com/user/like-fish1/media/9-13BCBTA_zpsf32d0302.jpg.html'> http://s1262.photobucket.com/user/like-fish1/media/9-13bcpic_zps99b4f42f.jpg.html'> http://s1262.photobucket.com/user/like-fish1/media/9-13zoasandclown_zpsae2614b7.jpg.html'> And FTS: http://s1262.photobucket.com/user/like-fish1/media/9-13BCFTS_zps19e6cec8.jpg.html'> The Monster birdsnest was getting too out of control and shading too much so i fragged him up and started with another piece. WOnt take long to fill back in as fast as that thing grows! Link to comment
gunguy05
I'm about to puil the trigger on the same LED's from aquastyle. How do you still like them. Any issues with them, heat, drivers going out, burnouts etc? Things are looking great! Link to comment
