dtum
I've just setup the Aquamaxx HOB-1 on my JBJ Nanocube. Plugged it in, primed it and... the horror. The noise is overwhelming, the pump is not to blame, it is all the gargling, bubbling noise, as if one were sitting by a tiny waterfall. I don't think I can have that in my living room. Any advice on taming this beast would be greatly appreciated. Quote Link to comment
cdrewferd
Check out ange's build. I believe he ended up putting some filter floss under the return line and that quieted it down a lot. Quote Link to comment

dtum
I've raised the return pipe and twisted it off to a side. There are still two distinct noises coming from the skimmer. One is the water coming down from the return pipe and it will be diminished once I get the foam pad there. But you can clearly hear the other sound there as well. Here's the video of the sound: Quote Link to comment
wyattroa
I think part of the problem is the same as mine, the water is not exiting under the water line..I am going to go to home depot and get some pvc and make an extension and have it exit below the water line so the water sound is not so loud. Reefolymia
I have this skimmer ! I had that problem for a while but a couple weeks ago I put a pvc elbow on the end and superglued it to make it a tight fit. Now I actually use this rig for flow in my sump/frag tank. The skimmer is now one of the quietest parts of my aquarium. Could not be more happy with it. Quote Link to comment

I doubt that this will help. I have this skimmer ! I had that problem for a while but a couple weeks ago I put a pvc elbow on the end and superglued it to make it a tight fit. Did the whole skimmer got quieter over time? Please elaborate. Quote Link to comment

cdrewferd
Sorry dtum, I was on the wrong forum when I posted about ange. Look him up over on reefcentral. He has one of these and loves it. Quote Link to comment
bones06
I just bought this skimmer and I had the same issue. It was making a very loud sucking noise coming from the right chamber. I found that the air silencer was not seated correctly and basically amplifying the gargling/sucking noise. Once I seated the air silencer correctly, the skimmer instantly became quiet. 1 Quote Link to comment
Omarons
When you say silent , does it mean def silent ? I still hear a gurgeling sound even after following the advice in this thread Quote Link to comment
