markalot
It's in good shape Kat, no worries. I have yet to get an acro that did not go through an angry stage after shipping. I just glued this and then fed the tank heavily with frozen plus reef roids, so the pics are cloudy and lack some contrast. It has a nice green glow under the blues this evening, so I think all is well. Other corals are fine too, and the big Paly is even starting to open. 3 Quote Link to comment
metrokat
It looks alright, will get happier as it gets acclimated. And it loves food, so. 1 Quote Link to comment
metrokat
NOBODY PANIC The zoa garden has been slowly getting shadowed by the setosa growing on the ledge above. This has resulted in many of my zoa colonies shrinking, polyp size dwindling, elongated stems and related issues. On the left side where the Grandis Paly colony is, I had glued red grape which was further shadowing the zoas below it. I tried to move the Subulata ledge, angle it differently to provide more light to the zoa garden below. It is only the first day of the new angled ledge today but already I can see that while the left side is now more open, the main zoa garden is even more in shadow. Back to the drawing board. metrokat
The regenerative powers of corals always surprises me. one of my leptastreas (I have 4) suddenly showed white patches. There was a limpet grazing on those spots too. At first I thought I have a killer limpet but it probably was munching on algae on the dead spots. The leptastrea has never had problems so I was watching carefully. July 7 Today July 12 6 Quote Link to comment

hypostatic
There is a big difference in the Mg between the two lol 1 Quote Link to comment
hypostatic
so either the parameters changed drastically since the two tests, or one of the tests is innacurate Quote Link to comment
metrokat
One is inaccurate, most likely my home test. Quote Link to comment

Nano sapiens
Happy 3rd! I used to us the Red Sea around 3 yrs ago, but found it inaccurate test kit to test kit. Not sure if they have a new kit or not. I have found the Salifert kits to be much more consistent and easier to use. I am surprised to see such an Alk difference. Are both tests measuring 'Total Alkalinity' as opposed to the subset 'Carbonate Hardness' (Bi carbonates and carbonates only)? Leptastrea are amazingly resilient. They also tend to morph coloration easily depending on the light source. Quote Link to comment

My readings for the past week have been rather low on the alk and I've made an effort to very slowly increase the dosing, but if the lab tests are to be believed then I shouldn't mess with it. I have no idea what both ALK tests measure to be honest. The lab tests will give details but their site is down for the weekend and I am unable to login to see their analysis. Sept 2013. Sigh. Where has my zoa garden gone. 2 Quote Link to comment
metrokat
Changed 5 gallons with Brightwell NeoMarine. Managed to wedge the gravel vac towards the back right of the tank. HOLY DETRITUS KATWOMAN! Whoa. The tank was nasty after that and still is. I out some Prime and Clarity in but it is still cloudy. Quote Link to comment
