siwelk
Gaaahhhhh! Just called AFA and they're out of shipping crates for the 75-P. Their only shipping option is freight now, a whole $35 more than UPS Ground. Now ADGshop is cheaper... Link to comment
siwelk
As with some women, the reefkeeping hobby can be a matter of size as well. ADA 75-P [75x45x45cm] footprint vs. GLA 63-S [63x45x45cm] footprint. I never thought I'd be contemplating the benefits of having an extra 12cm. Link to comment
castiel
My opinion: Go with the GLA. It doesn't seem like you are short of cash or on a strict budget, but $140 is $140. And I bet if the logos were removed, you would have a hard time spotting the difference. Link to comment

siwelk
For the DIY'ers: The following is what I have in mind for joining the top and bottom components. Also, I plan to secure the legs to the top and bottom with corner brackets as well. The small black holes above and below the dowel joint represent the drill site for 3" wood screws. Naturally, wood glue will be placed at all joints and dowel legs. || Sorry guys, no wimmunz small enough for this scale. Link to comment
siwelk
Redesigned stand (cord mgmt) || Here's a redesigned stand render showing the sump area with the 20H. The unit on the right will be pegged for varied shelving height options. I've also attempted to build in some cord management leading to the power supply. I know a lot of people choose American DJ for this, but I think I'm going with Technical Pro. I HATE red and the Technical Pro gives me an additional outlet. Pricing is comparable. Link to comment
siwelk
For ease of construction and assembly/disassembly I plan on making the stand and cabinet separately. In the photo below, the 2x4s will be secured with post anchors, similar to the ones shown here. Hopefully, this will allow me to anchor the pieces together without affixing them permanently. siwelk
Love this thread. You decided on the ADA? Thanks. I've been in contact with Frank @ ADG and George @ AFA the last two weeks. Mostly just trying to get a shipping rate I'm comfortable with. I know they sell great tanks, it's just so hard to pay $300 for a tank and over half of that to ship it. I'd say that's definitely the way I'm leaning now. My stand designs have been based off of 75-P dimensions. Shhh... Link to comment

siwelk
Reef Room Redesign Here's a brief vid showing the space soon to be converted into my 'Reef Room' (former LR). 1. The brown leather sofa is being held for a friend and will be replaced with this IKEA sofa bed. 2. The black folding chair will be replaced with a 6' room divider. 3. The dining table is being held as well and will be replaced by the tank/stand/cabinet. 4. The old LP shelving will be donated to a local thrift store, from whence it came. 5. The new LP shelving is from IKEA and comes highly recommended for your album storage needs. 6. The dog COULD be your untimely demise, should you enter the Reef Room unannounced. Link to comment
siwelk
If anyone knows of any [significant] ADA 75-P build threads besides this one, please let me know.
