Earlier this year i went on a business trip to Philippines and i got to visit one of the most beautiful places i have ever been to; Coron, Palawan. Still untouched by big resorts or hotel this place should be on the top 10 list of anyone who loves SPS as well as soft corals. I have been to great barrier reef too but this place is something different. I only snorkeled and i didn't have a good camera but here are some pics

I am currently traveling around Australia and decided to become a certified diver. Cyclone Yasi destroyed a huge part of this reef, but slowly, life is returning. Hope you enjoy. There are tons more if you want them.

Is this the Great Barrier Reef? I am dying to go back now that I am into reefs. I went some 10 years ago, and just saw 'lots of pretty corals and fish'. I would love to visit and see things I know.

Dipg those are some great shots too ... and no I couldn't see the 4th clown :P

The above pictures are from the reef off of Magnetic Island, which is part of the Great Barrier. Here is a link to some footage I took when snorkeling out near Green Island, off the coast of Cairns.

Finally went to the caibbean side of CR last weekend, lots of tangs, wrasses, sergeant majors and a few puffers. I tried the camera in a plastic bag tip but all the pics come out fuzzy to the point where its better to not take pics at all.

I picked up some macros 2 fish and a chunk of coral that had washed ashore.

Here are some pics from where I was at ( Punta Uva)

Awesome! Do you have a thread?

I took a 4 week diving trip to Fiji and the Solomon Islands this summer. I have tons of pictures and videos; I'll be sure to post some soon!

Can't wait

Just one where i was trying to ID the puffer lol.

There really isn't much to show, the tank had been running 4 months with nothing but a hermit in it and when i went to the beach i only picked up stuff that had washed ashore ( that includes the fish that were flopping on the sand and probably would have died if i didnt pick them up) and as for the actual tank, its a AIO 20 long, 150w MH, old sapphire skimmer, and a maxijet 1200.

Im exited for my christmas bonus so i can finally get a housing for my S95 omgomgomg

Think the wife and I have decided that we are heading to the Great Barrier Reef in April. Might just have to ask for a Gopro Hero2 for my birthday before we do =0)

Here's some amateur photos, mostly from the pacific side of Mexico, all taken freediving.

Ironically, tried to get a photo of the toby (which was about an inch long) but it focused on the rock behind revealing a super micro camouflaged fish right above it.

Those pictures from CA are awesome :) Are those also done free diving?

I just went out snorkeling tonight in Tillamook Bay up here in Oregon, had to try out my new dive light. Didn't find anything cool though :(

What is your gear setup for free-diving and snorkeling in CA? I'm still trying to figure out my gear rig for up here since most people skip right past what I'm doing and go to scuba.

Yes, all freediving :)

For Southern California, I use a 5mm, 2 piece, open cell freediving suit. For fins, I use fiberglass freediving fins (see in picture). The camera was an old canon powershot with a housing.

Oregon water must be COLD!

Its definitely chilly :) I'm using a 7mm 2 piece suit, gloves, and 5mm boots with a hard sole. I was warm and toasty the entire time. (except my lips)

I was only snorkeling though. The 7mm wetsuit was so boyant that I couldnt do anything else, lol. Time to get some weights I guess. Do you use any weight belts or anthing with the 5mm?

I gotta figure out what kind of fins to get since right now I'm just snorkeling, I'd like to start free diving, and I'm going to be doing scuba by this summer. Any suggestions?

Some good entry level plastic blade free diving fins are Omer Milleniums, Cressi Garas, and Picasso Black Teams. You should try them on before buying because each has a different shaped foot pocket that may or may not be comfortable for you. The advantage of the Omer and Picasso pockets, is that you can replace the blades if you decide to upgrade to fiberglass or carbon fiber, saving you the cost of new foot pockets.

Wearing any kind of wetsuit, you definitely need weight to dive. The thicker the suit, the more weight you need. Also, the heavier you are, the more weight you need. I try to be neutrally buoyant at hunting depth. (usually 20-40 feet). The deeper you dive, the less buoyant you become. It can be kind of tricky and dangerous if overweighted. Be safe.

This is amazing! Do you think I could get the high resolution version of this for a background image? :)

Check your inbox. Can't upload it because it will time out due to my internet connection
