cichlidtx
My tank has been cycling for almost two weeks and I noticed this snot like stringy stuff on the rocks and some on the sand. My ammonia is around .25. The rock was dry rock and new live sand. I did get some sand from a fellow reefer but the sand was really clean, no algae. Any idea what this might be? Here's a pic showing the substance. Is this just a part of the cycle? Also, I don't have the lights on at this time. Thanks Link to comment
dacookster
I would assume its made by some micro-organism, but I'm a newb so no real idea. I found your thread because I searched for "white film" as I have a coating of white/clear film all over everything in my tank after a week of my first ever cycle. Using test kits, all my parameters are really good. My SG is exactly 1.023 using a refractometer, so I'm hoping that everything is okay. The film is easily disturbed/cleared by a turkey baster. Spencer8857
I have this sometimes. Always assumed it was the tube worms excreting something. Interested to see if anyone has a more definitive answer. Link to comment
