Nemesis Nano - or more accurately Pico - nano has a better ring to it. The Evil Decepticon tank of doom, well not really, Has been restarted as of January 2015
It can be found here at this link: Nemesis Nano V.2 Same System new Start. Basically Nemesis II

I am not sure what builds I will attempt with this tank. I may use it to continue research into creating interesting tech. I may work on. I am thinking refugium.

So I will include any interesting pictures, if I can figure it out.

Edit: New Lighting Thread: http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?...262586&st=0

The new plan:

Nem-nano2.jpg

I can show you what I have for now.... worked on it a bit the other day. Need to go back to work on it some more. Hopefully done in time... although the lack of the 12 volt DC 2 amp brick delays things.

tankbasic-frame.jpg

The basica inside frame is of MDF. I dislike MDF like it is the bubonic plague. my brother in law insisted this was okay. IF I seal the crap out of it. Which I will do.

tank-case1.jpg

Solid pine shelf I bought from Ikea for 4 dollars was a bit short, but I will be painting the whole thing in black anyway. I bought it so it would save me a lot of finishing effort. The back of the case I cut the hole for the fan out using a took that cuts out wheels for wooden toys. That was quite a bit of fun. I also trimmed off some of the plastic around the fan so the fan's frame fit exactly into the hole. All I need to find. now is the grill and the power supply. What I did not take a Photo of this time around was the second hole that would be in the upper right hand back of the case. this is where the electrical will exit. Hanging it higher than the main frame so you force a drip loop.

my DYI fuge is hanging off the back. Just so I can decide how much depth I need

tank-case2.jpg

The structural integrety of the box did fail over night. the glue refused to stick to the black surface, the biscuit joints gave out. But this was not a problem for Good old Sunstar who has a secondary solution to most of her plans. I counter sank screws into the wood, deep enough to cover it with a plug cut from the same wood material. My brother in law has so many fun tools in that wood shop. What he needs to get is a lathe (uber fun those are :3, Jointer (terrible memories of spraying blood when a classmate did his hand in, Bandsaw) Things like plug cutters, buiscuit jointers, routers, templates for this that and the other, clamps, circle saws... I was in heaven. Even a decent shop vac.

the white wood is attached to the top which is a lid overlaying the main box structure. The light frame will be attached at this point.

light-frame.jpg

The joys of hole saws. two hole saws were used. One cut a wider shallow hole, then the other one smaller and right the way through. this helps manage the problem of the wood being a bit too thick for the fixture. But with it being counter sunk, I could get the light socket in and secured.

I need to get back up to the workshop to joint the light fixture into the lid, and get the wiring done. I got the hinges cut out, but I forgot my camera at home so I could not get them photographed. really thing thing looks quite excellent.

I drilled holes into the lamp frame near the top ehrtr it will join with the lid. this is to improve air supply. Unfortunately I had to ditch a couple ideas due ot lack of space. instead I cut the wires shorter and added a new plug in the end. I painted parts of it black, well I painted it all black, but discovered the brown wood area is an oil based paint so the latex peeled. scrubed it off, painted the plain wood black and it looks very lekker. (nice). I can't wait for the starters pistol to go off and I can get the sand and rock I've been seeding added to the tank, and the coral frags I have already and waiting.

Overflow added to the 2 gallon tank, Back painted black. everything is ready to go.

woot, while I was at it...

I managed to squeeze enough juice out of my batteries to get two photos:

With the light sheild down

Light s heild up.

I need to add a few more things, so the light fixtures will come out again, then I can hopefully add my moonlights in between the big aft bulbs.

Okay tonight's fun is installing: Guardian Stripez

CG11852.jpg

What this normally is used for is to make otherwise interesting cars tacky and cheap looking. But it's function for me is to act as a reflector to get as much benefit from the light as possible.

So far I got the instalation of the top decent. One spot is.. meh because of the L brackets I used. Using the instructions which says to saturate everywhere with soapy water so you can guide it into position, smooth it out and clean it up with a nice soft cloth. A+ on the initial important instalation!! I just need to work out the sides.

Picks without the glare of last night:

IMG_7739.jpg

I will be, when I am done fussing with the reflector, attach the wires to the lid so they don't wiggle around.

IMG_7742.jpg

And one light in the hood, and BOY is it blinding.

ha ha well now.. yeah.... My husband brought home a random brick from work fo rme to try to splice. it worked... but apparently my fan is blowing into the case and not out. SO the fan will hit the workbench again and I'll dremmel more off it to reverse it and then re-test it before siliconing it in. Dremel and handsaw. depends if I can findmy dremel again.... where did I put it away? I will get it to work, this I promise!!!

wires.jpg

Assorted wires, carefully held in place. the wire things came with little nails, I swapped them for brass screws.

moonlights.jpg

Moonlights positioned in between my coralife bulbs. As promised.

AC70? Conversion to fuge.

Ac-fuge.jpg

I did this a week or so ago, test ran it for a while. works nicely.

IMG_7698.jpg

Admittedly it is rough.

How mine works.

Water goes into the refugium after passing through the small overflow that is setup to aid surface skimming. it goes in from the impeller and is forced down and through a filter insert. Marina slim filger cartridge (bio carb) I will run the three I have until they are used then merrily make my own sleve to go over the frame after I somehow strip it of fluff. that way I can stuff it with Phosban or extra carbon. It slips in easily and as I like to say, works a charm :3

Inside the refugium section, I will forgo the sand, and stuff it with chaeto (or rather the chaeto will stuff it itself) and the heater. the heater is small and will fit inside the filter nicely. I have been running tests on equipment.

IT STARTS!

aaaand the batteries are dead. but I managed to get two shots of a somewhat cloudy tank.

As I said I was seeding the rock in a tank. same tank had most of the frags I wished to use in my nano. So frags rocks, and sand got shifted. the three carpet nems found their way into the tank, and I found two of three in the intake of the filter. I hope they stay where I moved them to and not go drifting again.

Corals I plan to try in here:

Tiny bit of kenya tree (can I bonsai this :P )

Pulsating xenia

Powder blue anthelia

Zoas of some sort.

small bit of chalice frag

green Star polyps

and some finger looking SPS I had kicking around

Macro algaes are mostly in the fuge.

there is that hard one, forget its name again, in the display and if any of the red stuff from carmanh survived, a bit of that will go in too.

Those pc's "foul", after about a month.

They shift spectrum, and promote cyano.... ;)

Just letting you know from experience.

I used the coralife 50/50s for 2 years in a 5 gallon hex before getting a biocube. Good bubs for the price, never had algae problems. Keep up with your sandbed and you will be fine. Change the bulbs every 6 months. Great DIY tank.

I would of just gotten a PAR30 Bulb for it. For the price of those three PC the 30 would of been better.

Very nice tank btw

the three bulbs cost me 30 bucks. what is a par 30 bulb?

bringman: What do you mean by "keep up with the sand bed" Keep it stirred and lightly cleaned?

I am most pleased to announce that I ditched the freight train of a fan for another salvaged fan that is very quiet. I am happy this means I can keep the fan running rather than turn it off when it gets obnoxious. (which is a lot of the time)

thanks. I am sure she'll get darker as time goes on.

To pick the branch I wanted to frag of the purple gorgonian, I actually selected one from the middle. other branches cna grow in to fill the area, it'll look awkward for a bit. But the frag I got, which is in this picture, has a straight enough stem for my purpose.

In the back and for now, I have added a pair of hammer coral heads.

A pair of candy cane heads in the middle (bright green)

Stuff will get moved around once I can determine the "behaviour" of the new additions.

I am waiting to see the feather caulptra grow out.

Salt water tanks take a long time to do anything.
