Something weird on my sandbed

John (or whoever else would like to answer)

I came home from work today and my sand bed has well over 100 small, circular, black objects sitting on the top of it. The trail in the sand leads directly to my Fighting Conch. They look more like waste than anything else but that seems like an awfully lot of whatever it is.

Any ideas?

circular huh? not conical? maybe waste but little spots like that I don't know. pic by any chance? (I should be the last person to ask for one :) lol... )

I will try to get a pic. Not conical. The trail is about 12 inches longer than it was when I first posted and it is definitely from the conch. I would describe them as pellets.

I will go work on a pic.

Here is an attempt at pics.

Sorry for the blue, I am still acclimating everything to the lights...

I included a pic of the snail in case I have him identified incorrectly.

not sure, this is probably a job for lakshwa. try pming him. Sorry I couldn't help, he probably can though

it is a conch, but i dont think it is a florida fighting conch. shell is different. Maybe it is one of those west indies conchs, but even then...I would check the ones from the pacific or at least not a fl native. bear conch, strawberry conch...i have seen the names but never really got interested in inverts from the pacific. Strombus for sure though, so at least you are in the right genus, gastropod.org(?) or the jacksonville shell club should have it.

I PM'd lakshwa to come take a look...

It was sold to me as a fighting conch but that doesn't mean anything...I will try to ID it on one the websites you suggest and see if that points me in a direction.

Has anyone else seen this before?

Thanks.

I was googling around, strawberry conch doesn't look too far off. commonly available from wholesalers too, so that is probably your guy

Seriously? They must go once a year....there has to be a couple hundred of them now!

my conch produced the same, it's poop for sure.

John, strawberry conch? Do they do the same thing as the fighting conch?

lol...you thought you were going to have a clean sand bed, but instead....

Exactly! I was all excited about my new white sandbed and instead of taking care of business in the old tank he saves it all up for the new sand...stupid snails!!!
