I saw that you are selling micro porcelain crabs. Awesome! I was thinking about purchasing a small community for my pico. How do they interact with each other? Are they agressve towards one another, or would it be fine to throw a bunch in there. Also, the price is $4. Is that per crab?

I used to have a purple one and miss it. 'Would love to have a bunch of these little guys hanging around.

I should probably sell them as a 2-4 pack with a small barnacle cluster. They hang out nearby, and will wave their arms in their air looking for food...once the group has an area, they stay in it and with fex exception they will always be there. A group of 6 or more might split into two groups, sometimes they stay together though. THey dont fight each other, I think it has to do with having enough room for them to all sit on top of the rock/barnacle/etc... and wave around in the water.

Wow those sound awesome! I may have to add a little group of them to my order!!!! Do they need the barnacles to live on?

no, they do just fine on rocks, but if I was going to give a description of their behavior, that is pretty natural. They hide out in the holes, come to the top and escape back in. Since they feed like a barnacle too, they almost become 3nd generation barnacles in a way...that is why i mentioned it, otherwise they can live wherever, rocks, pvc pipe etc..

mine aren't colored some are greener than others, but colorful isn't a word I would use to describe them though.

Wow. That was a fast reply!

Let me know how you are planning to do this. I will likely be placing an order next week for them.

Thanks!

They are adorable! Are they actually colored? Apurple one sounds cool, what happened to yours Mr?

Right!? Agreed.

I'm not sure what happened to mine. Perhaps it was old when I got it, or maybe my tank was too clean for it. I think it might have also died during an attempted molt because it was upside down for a while before it died.

So they feed like barnacles, does this mean they also starve like barnacles in a nano aquarium? I'd like to get a couple for my pico but since its only been running for a month or so I'm worried they wouldn't have enough to eat.

well they are mobile and omnivores...I was just making a comparison to how they hang out, they will eat leftover food, pick at some algae etc...

hah...i just noticed i misspelled "2nd" that is pretty bad....even for me...

If there is anything hard to keep at my store there will be some red letters and super conservative language about it. I don't sell things like horseshoe crabs and the like because of stuff like that, no worries there, if there is something difficult I will let you know for sure.

Would they get along with pom pom crabs? Your site said they might get picked on by emerald crabs but I'm curious if they would do well with others, or even sexy shrimp. I've got a 3g I'm thinking about tossing a couple pom poms and some sexy shrimp in.

Just ordered 7 of the little buggers. Any worries with a banded coral shrimp?

Where are you located and do you have a store front?

chrssprngs - Stuart Florida. We have a warehouse, and are zoned for industrial use. We will work out a will call service in the future, but currently we don't have the parking and the country will not allow us to have retail customers in the traditional sense. Coral banded shrimp are mean, but they generally won't bother porcelain crabs, they are worse around snails and other shrimp, but they tend to leave these guys alone.

kamikazefish - pom poms wouldn't hurt them, they are pretty tame for crabs. The porcelains are not aggressive to other crabs, and there are a few crabs they share homes with. All of which would probably be considered evil in an aquarium though. Porcelain crabs are really timid, those claws aren't for fighting, they are for dropping while fleeing. I think these guys have a better temperament than hermits for what it is worth...if anything...lol...

I have had the porcelain crabs in the past. they will use the claws to scare things at times. I just figured in a 5gallon tank I dont want to take any chances.. i've wanted a pom pom for a long time.

the times that ihad them i never noticed them fighting with anything. i just felt like being cautious today :)

Hi Chrissprings, I sent an email, but since your order came in on Wed. afternoon it is set for shipment next Monday. We only have 2 shipments a week. We did shipping every day a few weeks ago and it drove up costs incredibly... so we went back to our original schedule.
