beastium Posted February 12, 2010 Share Posted February 12, 2010 bump yes epoxy is what clams and mussels produce to keep their shells together, so it will be safe. only thing is underwater the epoxy doesnt stick very well, so you'll have to mold it to the crevices on the rock and let it "dry" but is this also true for the coral glue gel??? Anything that is sold to the aquarium hobby is just rebranded. They are all made in the same factories, have the same ingredients. The difference is that fancy label that says aquatic something on it and of course the inflated price. This doesn't mean all glues and puttys are reefsafe, but most are. Aquamend is re-branded 100xs. I even looked into putting an inTank logo on it. Kind of spendy upfront investment. .but It's actually roughly the same price as the aquarium epoxy if you buy it online... I now that the skimmer usually doesn't work after i use epoxy but it's the first time it actually looks like a bubble foambath...is that normal? SOS Link to comment

r20crazy Posted February 13, 2010 Share Posted February 13, 2010 calm down...... skimmeres usually go crazy after the use of aquamend or similar. one usually has to adjust the cup/air settings. skimmer will 'chill' after a few hours after the putty starts to fully harden/set. either shut the skimmer off if you can't watch it, turn the air down so less bubbles are made to control it for now, or get a big collection cup and keep an eye on it. JohnOTS Posted July 13, 2010 Share Posted July 13, 2010 I shut my skimmer off whenever I put epoxy in the water, I keep it off for about 4 hours. All is normal after that. I have been using aquamend for 2 years now, no problems. From what I hear - at home depot - aquamend is no longer sold, well under that name at least. I will no be switching to the JB weld version, weter weld... Link to comment
