I think they are another way to diversify the CUC in a tank.. Sure they do the same as other snails but they looks a lil different .. size shape than some others so sure why not carry em. If nothing else for diversification.

Not sure if they are better suited for any one type of issue over another but they eat algae right :)

Are we talking about the cone shaped shelled astreas?

If so I have never had one of mine not be able to right itself, then again I dont recall one needing to.

But I think turbos are better algae eaters but they bulldoze more than my astreas do and leave bigger messes on the rock.

I think you should carry them. I've heard lots of people talk about how they can't right themselves when they fall, due to their cone shaped shell, but I've had 4 in my tank for almost a year without a single issue. Maybe I got the 4 smartest astrea snails in the world but I'm usually not that lucky.

You're the expert. What do you think of them?

The large nerites and chitons I have from you rock. The nerites are always cruising around pretty fast munching on stuff. The chitons move super slow, but seem effective.

The nerites are pretty big, but i've never seen my nerites get stuck.

personally? i really, really dislike them and think the shouldn't be a part of crew. I like selling them even less b/c of all the time you have to spend righting them or lose your profit margin, but I keep getting requests.... so ...???

you should if they'll earn you money. screw what people want.

also, fwiw, i've never lost one due to falling upside down. i've lost a bunch of nerites that way though. and the astreas i have tore that red cottony algae apart.

Do you even have one of those? I mean with all the freebies you always throw in... :P I figured you must be running some non-profit kind of thing for us fellow reefers

people seem to like them. My personal feeling were all dislike, but oh well...If Dhaut likes them... give me 2 weeks and we will offer them again. Maybe the falling over and what not is more noticeable in a commercial rather than a hobbyist setting. I never right Nerites, surprised to hear them die from not righting.

I think they died from the roving hoards of blue-legged hermits I have.

:) That does happen. What is the update on your algae situation?

That red stuff is pretty much completely gone (I think there's a tuft on my koralia). The hermits/nerites/astreas knocked it out. Now I have way too much CUC in my tank, lol. I'm going to start trying to give some away.

Thanks man. Also, I could be wrong, but I think the dwarf ceriths are breeding. I don't see eggs, but I do see tiny ceriths occasionally.

yeah that is pretty common for them. THe eggs are really small, hard to see unless they end up on the glass, and they usually lay them on the sand.
