AJ_Tsin
Here are some SLR photos of the rimless setup. The system has been running for one week and everything is still quite stable. I saw a little rise in Ammonia on day 4 and 5 but that has returned to zero however I have had trouble keeping Calcium and dKH up as the larger volume of water volume necessitated an increase in routine doses. I have noticed wisps of algae on the glass and a bit of diatom algae on the sand bed which leads me to believe the aquarium is already producing nitrate again. Because I kept all of the rock 100% submerged in the transfer from the old tank the bacteria survived the move which may have minimized the cycle period. Not sure yet but due to the algae showing up but I think the system may be in the clear. I will post pics soon of the sump details. Also I just bought a Two Little Fishies Phosban Reactor and will be running ROWA phos by the end of the week this should help keep the system at extremely low nutrient levels. I am also dosing tiny amounts of Vodka (0.3 ml) daily. I am debating beginning a full Vodka dosing regiment any thoughts on this? I was going to begin a couple weeks ago on my Biocube, but then the upgrade changed things I am unsure wether to dose during a cycle so I have just kept the dose at 0.3 ml instead of raising it after 4 days as per reccomendation from this article. As always thanks for reading and feel free to leave comments or feedback. Quote Link to comment
mdannyg
i'm a total newbie so i shouldn't be advising anybody, but i don't think i'd want to be dosing vodka or anything when it sounds like you're either in or coming out of a mini cycle. but oh my gosh keep that eye candy coming! Yea I am pretty uncertain wether to dose Vodka or not right now. I mean 0.3 ml is pretty harmless especially since I have extremely mature liverock (been in a system under my possession for over 4 years). I keep a pretty careful eye on my stuff and have not noticed anything but good. I am 99 percent sure that I made it through a tiny re-cycle in 7 days...!? All tests peaked midweek and now Nitrate has risen from about 0.9 ppm to 5. Most SPS frags and colonies turned brown during the move, but they are all gaining colour again rapidly. Perhaps I should hold off on the Vodka until I get this setup stable in a month or two. Any advice on this or has anyone dosed vodka on a newer setup? As far as eye candy goes I will continue to post photos as they are taken, thanks for the kind words. I am personally quite pleased with the aquascape and the tank dimensions. Speaking of tank dimensions... questions were asked earlier about potential flow issues with such a low profile shallow tank. I can say the Vortech is working wonders... what a great pump worth every penny. Today I re-added a Nano Koralia to the back right corner (opposite the Vortech). Because the scape creates a big rock quarter circle wall running down the back right wall in a sort of amphitheater layout there is a channel of unmoved water protected from the Vortech and untouched by the return pump. The Nano Koralia is perfect here just enough motion to keep the Monti Cap, Torch, and Clam happy while not letting detritus gather in the back corner on on the backside of the rocks. Paleoreef103
I really dig this tank. I too am just kind of stuck on the .3 mL of vodka a day wagon. I also dose two drops of mb7 and five of brightwell coralamino. I think it helps.... Quote Link to comment

spanko
Nice vid but one criticism here if that is okay. I think the scene changes were too quick and too much fade in and out. Did not give the viewer enough time to really look and enjoy the tank. I love the scape and really wish you would have spent a little more time at 1 min in, 2.07 in, and 3.07 in. The tank is a real beauty. Well done. Quote Link to comment

irogers
wow your tank is really beautiful! that video was quite amazing, and the HD made a huge difference. I do have to agree the cuts were a little too quick for me to take it all in, but really stunning colors and scape. Quote Link to comment
ir0n_ma1den
wow nice production! I'm assuming you used some kind of DSLR to shoot this? what model and lens? Quote Link to comment
AJ_Tsin
wow nice production! I'm assuming you used some kind of DSLR to shoot this? what model and lens? Thanks for the compliments It was actually a Sony XD Cam EX1 Video Camera not a DSLR, however you are correct in the lens assumption. The camera is equipped with a 35mm lens system and a sophisticated imaging element meant to replicate film. It's a pretty big rig but I own a video and interactive media production company near Niagara Falls Canada so a camera that big is justified. I was using old Canon FD Prime Lenses for this shoot 50mm, 200 mm, 84mm, 28 wide. All relatively fast 1.4 - 2.8 ish. I dont use zoom lenses ever. The video is raw out of the camera however a white balance filter was applied because not many cameras white balance to 20000 K. No other effects or color correction were applied. Cheers. 1 Quote Link to comment
