cruzH20polo
What’s up nano-reef! I’m a college student at uc Santa Cruz going to a B.S. in Marine biology with emphasis on bacterial ecology. You could say I’m heavily involved with the university, not only am I a student, but I play NCAA water polo for the school, and I also have an internship in John Zehr microbial lab. The lab is based around the nitrogen cycle, and my current project is working with the diversity of the Urease protein in bacteria in the Monterey Bay. I am also working with a post-doc on DDA (diatom-diazatrophic associations), I will also be writing my thesis through this lab. I have been working with aquariums since I was little; I have kept an extensive amount of freshwater species. It was only about a year and a half ago that I got into reef tanks. I started with a 24 gallon aquapod, I made my fair share of mistakes, but thank God I found this site! I have been researching, researching and researching, and have had many aloud brain stormings with my patient girlfriend, who I’m sure by now knows just as much marine bio as I do. I decided a few months before I moved that would set up a new tank to transfer the aquapod to. I enjoy the look that shallow long tanks offer as opposed to the cube design, also I found the aquapod limiting, it was a great starter tank, but the amount of work I felt needed to mod it, wasn’t worth it. I chose a 20 long, it’s the perfect size for my new place, and its long and shallow. Now for the good stuff… pictures!!! (excuse the quality there from my iphone) The 24 aquapod the painting the stand and light stand they fit the HOB overflow and return plumbing set up in the room the sump/fuge shot the right side the left side The obligatory FTS Thanks for looking in! any feedback is awesome and much appreciated Link to comment

1337TANKHAX
Nice looking tank. You just have to keep on truckin after tank crashes. I'm actually majoring in environmental science policy at CSU Monterey Bay. I've got a few friends up at UCSC and I go up there all the time. I'm buddies with Kray too. Link to comment

Yea kray hooked me up big time, im bummed that i lost a good portion of it Looks good. Sorry to hear about your heater incident. Keep up the good work. thanks The hardest part right now is waiting, i want to get the tank looking good again, but Im gonna wait a little while to let everything recover. The a diatom maintenance is getting difficult, due to the metal contamination I lost most of my clean up crew. That coupled with the large water change my tank is going through a cycle. Im cutting back my cheato a lot, but it still can't grow fast enough. Ill kill this down time with my NEW CAMERA. Its great being able to decent pictures, Im having trouble getting the colors right. but ill figure out how to work it, so when i get to restock i should have some cooler updates Link to comment

cruzH20polo
Awesome frilled dragon, what is their lifespan? Are they tameable or does he freak out and bluff at you constantly if you get close? They live 15-17 in the wild, captivity its more along the lines of 14-15 Ive come across some pretty mean frillies, but they can be handleable, it depends on the owner really. They more you handle them the better off they are. Rameses has only bitten me once, and i just held on to him, he knows that bitting doesnt won't stop me so he doesnt bite. He does frill a lot but its all in warning, but he eats out of my hand, and i let him run across my house which is cool cuz they run on their hind legs. He also likes to hang out on the top of my head sense they are natural climbers I'm a junior right now. You're tank's looking good. It looks like everything's recovering well. Yea its going well, some of the zoas are hit and miss, some days they are open, some days they arnt NOW .... to set up that ATO Link to comment

Arkayology
What kind of lighting are you using? I am getting a 20L set up here and there when I can afford the parts. Just wondering what you have considered putting into the tank, fish and invert wise. Link to comment

Just wondering what you have considered putting into the tank, fish and invert wise. Im using the 4x 24" current sundial T-5 I have switched the stock 10k with a fiji purple and im going to upgrade 2 aqua blueplus im also playing around with the idea of adding a few more LEDs but we'll see about that Im stoked on the color I get now, and it was a HUGE upgrade from the PC of the aquapod If you don't want to figure out a way to mount it, go with the 30" it still uses the 24" bulbs but it the casing actually fits the 20L good luck on your project Link to comment
