albertthiel Posted October 9, 2012 Share Posted October 9, 2012 I bought my first Dendro on Sunday. It looks great in the tank stays open most of the time. It has a tiny baby at the bottom but I'm a little worried with a presence of some kind of hair that surround the coral. Does anyone know what it might be? Is it normal in Dendrophyllia? Here is a close up of this part. As Megability wrote it looks like some tiny amount of GHA and I too recommend that you remove it as IME if you do not it may just grow a lot more and could damage your coral polyp. I've tried to remove the dendro from the tank to clean it with tweezers. This damn combination of Crazy Glue gel and the putty made it impossible. It is attached to the rock really well. I've tried to clean it as much as I could with my hand in the tank but there are still a few hair left. I will monitor it closely. If it grows more I will have to do something about it. nystang Posted October 9, 2012 Share Posted October 9, 2012 No. It is attached to one of the two main rocks in my tank. The dendro is almost at the bottom of the tank but close to the front glass. If the hair keep growing I will have to use a different kind of tweezers to remove the hair while in the tank. Quote Link to comment

Yes that may be more complicated but I guess you have to do what you have to do so it does not get larger and more extensive Quote Link to comment

That's exactly how I remember my dendro's, they'd eat and eat until they couldn't hold anymore....then 3 hours later they'd be ready for another feeding. 4 baby heads sprouted off of one main polyp in about 2 months with daily feeding...I miss my dendro's Quote Link to comment

This morning when the full lights came on i target fed it with the top of a water bottle over it and dusted it with mysis. I only seen one mouth for sure swallow some shrimp? They didnt open up all the way, basicly i could see all the red mouths and just the tips of the yellow tentacles. The coral is in my bc 29 with four 36 watt pcs for light, I that to bright for them? I want to train them to open in the morning in the full light. Im going to do a water change after every feeding because I do run my tank skimmerless and dont want to bomb the tank with nutrients. Would every three days be often enough to feed? How long do these guys take to train to open in the light? Any help would be great! Quote Link to comment

Try feeding each head/polyp separately and you should IMO seems better response to the feeding ... that is what most of those who keep them do. The way you fed may not have given each of them food. wombat Posted April 15, 2013 Share Posted April 15, 2013 Orange Tubastrea becomes a weed under the right conditions. Here are examples of it outgrowing Dendrophyllia and Tubastrea micrantha. On the dendro you can see it grows right up the base of the coral. The orange polyps in the second picture are all from settled planulae. Quote Link to comment
