jokercykoe
First coral going into tank. 29 polyps. 11 of eagle eye look alikes (not sure if its them or not) 18 of the unknown green ones. I put down $16.40. Let me know if I should change price. FTS 10/7/09 Shows how I moved rock to left side of the tank. Link to comment
jokercykoe
$29 they are not drab. Done Link to comment
1337TANKHAX
I've seen a few people put the less extreme watermelon morphs as the .30C per polyp, I think 16 is totally reasonable. Link to comment

I thought 16 was reasonable as well. I'll ask in the main contest thread later when more people are home from work. I got the frag for 5$ haha. If anybody is near my area, Coral Oasis in Irvine has a bunch of these green/watermelon/ee zoa frags for 5$ a pop. 10-30polyps. Thats about all they had though so don't expect a bunch of colorful/rare morphs. Link to comment
Doc Frye
"Zoas and Paly's No names- $ .30 PP not really colorful at all Common- $1 PP EE, Whammin' watermelons, red skirts, dragon eyes, pink panthers etc." I would say those are colorful. Not drab browns and yellows. Link to comment

jokercykoe
FTS for this monday taken 10/19/09 That last frag I might frag off some of the plain green ones to get back some of the budget. Only reason I bought the frag was for the cool looking zoas. Seems that I'm visiting the LFS on the mondays that the FTS's are due and buying a frag or 2 at a time. Hahaha. This time I bought my camera into the store and the owner was cool with it, so here are some random pics. The frag I ended up buying (in the middle) anybody recognize those zoas? If there is a name for them let me know! It was under 250w 20k halides, hopefully it doesnt change too much under my lighting. their frag tanks saw these peeking out from under those mushrooms. Might come back for them later My gf checking out their display Xenias galore Link to comment
Gerber77
Nice pics man. Seems like a pretty cool store but as far as that zoa colony you put down for $16 I would say thats a good estimate. Those polyps usually run about .50 per polyp. RadioActive Dragon Eyes (green) are probably the most common zoa in the hobby. They are very nice tho, really pop under actinics Link to comment
jokercykoe
Thanks for the input. I might change it back to 16$ if I ask the mod later and she agrees. As of now I'll just leave it. I agree about the colors popping under actinics. The frags I buy look great under the LFS's 20k 250w halides. They also look great under the t5 frag tanks. You can see from the pictures the difference in spectrum between my tank and the LFS frag bins. My hqi bulbs are supposed to be 14k but are actually pretty yellow/white. Would love it to have more blue so the corals colors would "pop". Link to comment
1337TANKHAX
Looking great man. I'd definitely go back and snatch those yellows. Link to comment
jokercykoe
Added a plug of 10 polyps of pissed off Joker Palys. I'm hoping they make a comeback in this tank. They've lost most of their color, but you can kind of still see the green on the skirts. In other news, the tank is full of pods. Pods, pods everywhere! What fish can go in a tank this small? Edit: Reading lgreens Ultimate Guide to Nano Fish sticky in the beginner section. Link to comment
lajz9
Nice, hopefully they color up for you a bit. I've got tons of pods myself, pretty crazy to see so many in tanks this small. Could probably add a goby...I've been thinking about a blue striped clingfish myself but I can't seem to find much info on them. Link to comment
jokercykoe
Finally got around to fragging this guy so I could remove the extra zoas I don't want (to reduce the price). It was the 72p frag. Kept most of the cool looking ones & some of the palys too. Ended up with a few frags, which I'm either going to trade or just throw in the nanocube 12. 20-21 polyp frag 17 polyp frag 7 Polyp frag + a bunch more baby polyps coming in 2 polyp frag of the one I actually bought it for a 3 polyp frag of the same ones, didn't get a picture because they're not fully opened yet. Anyone local want to trade for any of these? I'm subtracting these off the 72 polyp frag (72-50=22) I also added some brown zoos with kind of orange/peach centers? 17 polyps. Not really colorful so I'm counting them as .30c a pop. How it looks right now from the right side. with the original colony in 2 main pieces that I'm keeping and epoxied to the rockwork. jokercykoe
Went on a shopping spree today. Posted up a WTB thread in RC's local forum and got a bunch of replies. Ended up going to Los Alamitos, Long Beach, & Lake forest buying a whole bunch of corals from local reefers. This hobby and most of the people in it is great Spent about 60$, but with the contest prices I ended up pretty much maxing out my livestock. Kind of sucks because It doesn't feel like the tank is full but whatevers. Now I just sit around, wait for things to grow, move it around the tank, and try to fill in the empty space with whatever grows out of what I have. Candycanes aka Trumpet Corals. Some blues and neon greens. (I've never seen them this neon. Seem to almost glow). Orange Yuma (I'm hoping it splits sometime in the future. It has 2 mouths but only 1 body) Some Green zoas Blue spotted Mushrooms. Guy sold it to me as superman mushrooms but doesn't seem too red. Idaho Grape Monti 2" on a reef plug. I'm hoping it keeps its color. I've never dealt with sps before, and I'm not sure if I can keep the tank parameters stable enough in this small a tank. and on to the "better" stuff. 1 polyp candy apple pinks 2 lunar eclipses. still PO'd and haven't really opened all the way 3 goochsters 6 kedd reds Can't believe the budget got used up so quickly! FTS 10/28/2009 Top down shot 10/28/2009 For some reason I seem to keep overexposing the sand, which blows out the picture. Thats why I like the top down shot better. Link to comment
lajz9
Man, definitely some nice stuff you found there. That joker frag is killin ya! Link to comment
jokercykoe
Man, definitely some nice stuff you found there. That joker frag is killin ya! Yeah I'm debating if I should just remove that and get back 50$. It's not even really jokers because its not nice to look at... all the colors are gone I can say this though. After buying from local reefers, I don't think I can look at LFS prices the same again. Locals have some great deals and are some great people! Link to comment
jokercykoe
You know what, I am going to remove the "jokers" get back my money. I can use that elsewhere. Heres a picture of the back "holding cell" of my tank for the undesirables. I need to take out all the rock/caulerpa infesting my nanocube 12 and set up a mini growout tank. Anybody want some green zoas and can trade something let me know. Link to comment
jokercykoe
Another quick picture after lights out. Taken with just ambient lighting in room. 2 second exposure. Damn I need moonlights! Link to comment

jokercykoe
whats growin in the pot...2nd last pic?? False Aralia. Its still just a seedling. Why, are you into horticulture or botany or something? Couple of my plants 2 favorites being bamboo (because it grows insanely fast for some reason) and my chili plant. Because it provides chili peppers while looking great. Link to comment
