Maritza The Vase Reef Sept. 2015

Peace To All.

Wow!! It's been a long while. Very busy and not really on the net like before. But we have a new video on YouTube on Maritza The Vase Reef for Sept. 2015, and we're heading towards the 3 year count down, Jan.1 2016.

We are still here. Maritza is doing great!! Most of the Corals have aged well. Xenia's growing wild on the glass, not a problem since it's easy to control, and we had to remove the Acropora's because they were very aggressive towards the Montipora Digitata's. They were doing fine but the stingers were too long at night.

We were also not liking the still branch look and no movement except from the Xenia's. Every time we looked into the Vase Reef, it felt like the SPS Corals were giving us the "Finger". But We had to keep them in order to have something to document and experience, in a Vase Reef.

We opt. to go with some small colorful LPS and Yes, We know about the stinger possibilities, especially in such close proximity. However, that hasn't been the case yet, and it seems like they stay more contained and in their places. Also we've never kept those varieties, so it's important for us to do so, in order to continue the information available about Vase Reef Keeping. Plus We enjoy the movement and dramatic colors.

Overall, Maritza is going STRONG!!! And We're grateful to have been featured in July's Q3 Issue on Reef Hobbyist Magazine, We are so grateful and in return, We are continuing with Maritza The Vase Reef.

Thanks To All..

a WALL of xenia its excellent. I have thrown away no less than 20 hydrated pounds of that skunk coral right down the drain lol. Its the best motion for a reef IMO i cleared my tank of it but now want that wall you have. im going shopping later it better not import any fworms or dinos lol

reefbowl oddity #910

in a reefbowl, the greater mass of xenia will always move to the glass, wierd. seen it for years. put it in as a frag plug or on a rock, within a month it will all be on the glass.

Peace Brandon.

Great to hear from You Sir..Once in a while, they do creep onto the nearby rock work and I let they grow and cut them with scissors, really close, Like a hair cut trim. But for the most part, they seem very intelligent and know what Corals to avoid. So yes, they have purposely made their way onto the glass, and that is a blessing for us.

Just want to make this time to Thank You for getting Me started with Maritza The Vase Reef, by inspiring Me with your personal Vase Reef, The Original Vase Reef. There would be no Maritza without Brandon's Vase Reef.

Blessings To All.

Thank You for having a look and commenting. "Old Timers" Vase? Not sure what that is but I guess it's a nice thing. There is a variety of Corals in here and there are more Corals that I would like to test in the future for compatibility and observations, growth, and other. Have to give the corals that I'm testing at least 2-4 months in the Vase Reef, so the Corals can thrive in a Vase Reef. You don't have to settle for one look. You can change it whenever, without breaking down the set up, and you can add assorted frags as you see fit and desire. You can't get bored! Sps, Lps, Octocorals, Sponges, etc...Everything in this Vase Reef is noticed and appreciated. You can't miss a thing.

Blessings To All.

Thanks for having a look and commenting. It's a Purple Torch with Neon Green Tips. The bottom is an Orange Hammer. Hope this helps.

Brandon is correct :)

There aren't very many Pico tanks that are close to 3 years old, so congrats!
