Polyp OVERextension

Hey there N-R!

I saw this sad coral for sale at a LFS that's famous for its overpriced, half-dead livestock that's usually infested with giant aiptasia and bubble algae. They were selling these AOGs for $40! The tallest one was at least six inches long. This is about as much, "extension" as I've ever seen. LOL!

I think they're T8's. Basically, they take any coral they have that is near death, put it in this tank, and label it as a, "frag."

Mr. Microscope, I'm digging the goatee. I shaved mine recently because my wife thought it was too long. it was only about 3 months! Anyway, those zoas should be free.

Thanks Mitch! It's actually a beard (I guess it's hard to tell in that photo). I've had it about a year. My wife hates it too. LOL!

Free?! They'd have to pay me to put those in my tank.

lol $40?! gotta love that. the Petco here in new orleans started keeping saltwater a year ago...and even that puts this LFS to shame.

this mother colony actually came from petco if you can believe that:

Not bad! There is one around me that started carrying coral. It's a sad sad venture for them, but even worse for the corals. No one buys them and their tanks seem to be in a constant state of cycling. I really don't think they use proper lighting and they have lots of dead clownfish laying around. My guess is that they never change the water.

They’re surprisingly doing well here. The piece above was in their tanks for over a month and is now over a year old. They had a clam (i never got it because it was slightly overpriced) that lived for longer than 3 months before it was sold (or died more likely). The fish also seem to do well.
