My panther grouper is hurting right now
it kinda looks like someone has been after him with sand paper
slightly rubbing him on the sides, its turning red and inflamed
water parameters are normal
8.3 ph 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 40 nitrate, low phosphate

I recently had been running a cycle of maracyn for a few days
everyone else in tank seems to be fine and eating, just not him
other inhabitants are: blue ribbon eel, bamboo shark, snowflake moray, yellow tang, porcupine puffer.

he has not eaten in last few feedings, and seems to be breathing pretty strong
water is circulated very well, i have my mag 9 return aimed to top of water , as well as, another powerhead agitating the surface water on the other side.

Any ideas?
any help would be welcomed

Thanks,
Kevin

How big is your tank? Those are some pretty big fish for a nano. Try Melafix.

I can't remember which one I used (I think it was II), but it worked great for fin rot and abrasions. Also, you might put some of the "coating" additives like "novaquel" and see if that helps. Do you know if anything is picking on him?

I think your tank is overcrowded. I read that the Panther Groupers sometimes get stressed in a small environment. Several sites it said the tank should be over 100 gallons and your tank seems pretty crowed. See I have a similar problem with my Panther Grouper, It used to be really active and now it just lies around a lot the time, resists to eat, and breathes really heavily. It doesn't seem to inflamed though. I found that if you put food on a feeding stick, and dangle it in front of his mouth and bump it into his mouth, he will reluctantly eat it. It may be tricky to try that with your tank because the other fish in your tank will probably try to eat it before you get a chance. I am not sure if this will be the same for your tank as it was for mine because I have a 300 gallon tank, and I can rule out it being to crowed and he is not getting picked on by the other fish.
I hope this was helpful,
BSL
