I would advise against keeping a clam.

Thanks Tigah.

Thanks Tigah.
I think he means that there is not enough light/space for a clam.

I have a 55 Gallon if it grows too quickly. And, there is enough light for a Derasa.
UPDATE: I just ordered a 2x9 watt PC light fixture, heater, and thermometer from Big Al's. Should be here in a few days.

Its good enough for Derasas.
Also, baby clams aren't exactly dependant on Photosynthesis.

I picked up my lighting fixture from the UPS Store today.
Now I can't get it onto the tank without the glass cover, which means I can't use my HOB...
Help???
Light is a 9" 2x9 watt by Coralife. HOB is an AC20.

what I did was to use a table saw to cut a piece of plexiglass to fit the top of the tank. it's the same dimensions as a glass top, but is 2" narrower to fit the HOB.

Word of advice, do not put the clam in the tank. It may look as if its doing fine for a few months, but really slowly starving. Just my $.02

Not like a clam that small is eating much from the lighting. He'll be a filter feeder at that size.

Some advice on the glass top. If you want to use it they are very easy to cut with a diamond dremel bit. I cut mine for the contest and had no problems until I stepped on one. But I had a spare.

i was told by multiple people that clams are almost completely photosynthetic until they are at least 3". i think a deresa would be fine anyway under 18W of pc at less than 8" away. worst case scenario: the clam starts looking crappy and you have to put it in your 55. what do you have to lose?

Snoop's right, you have it backwards - the problem is the feeding required by baby clams unless you feed them outside the tank in a bowl or something is going to cause major water quality issues with stock filtration on a 2.5g tank.
